Just lookin' at those harrel stick floats in your second link Keith, they are just avons with a shorter sight tip!

The woodys ones in my stick float picture, the ones on the far right are similar and in all honesty they're neither here nor there....just silly imo.

Yes exactly what I thought Ian, rightly or wrongly the word Stickfloat is nowerdays used to describe a host of similar floats and no longer just encompasses the original standard Stickfloat design (which in my view was a very poor design anyway).

Oh, keith,I forgot to say, sorry about your friend passing away as he did, shame that! At least he was doing what he liked best when he went though :).

Yes Tigger; at least Keith died after a great day doing what he enjoyed the most; Trotting a Stick after Barbel using his centrepin on one of his favourite small rivers; although he might even have been chasing his other great love; large Roach, and he had very recently had a Roach of 3lb plus (see the 2014 link)

Keith was a well known and respected Angler especially in the Barbel world; and in the Angling weeklies and also on Keith Arthurs Tight Lines on Sky; and was sorely missed when he died. Heres just a few of the large fish that he had caught from our club waters trotting with his centrepins using both sticks and Avon floats.

NB: He was also a well respected Match Angler back in the days when he used to compete with some of the countries top Match anglers.

Heres what some of the counties well known Angling celebrities and others said about Keith when he died.

I feel very privileged to have known him and to have occasionally fished with him.

Some fantastic catches there for sure, shame he popped his cloggs, but unfortunately were all destined for it one way or another!

A friend of mine told me that Keith Speer make video whilst trotting, have you seen it Keith? Do you know how I might be able to get hold of it?

Go on Ian take it as you'll do it justice.

You know what Mike, I really would be frightened of loosing it, seriously I would !

I'd prefer Keith to have it anyhow, I think he would be less likely to loose it than I, especially as I fish my line straight through and keith uses gut bottoms.

I’ve already got a fluted Avon Float in my float collection, but that’s nice of you to offer. Martin, thanks.

Keith

It was a Podcast that was transmitted a few months before he died.

It was shown on Keith Arthurs Sky Angling program Tight Lines and was taken with both of them fishing one of our clubs upper stretches of the river Lea together with a discussion about their trotting methods back in the studio.

I did have a copy of the interview and film on my Laptop but that laptop passed away a long time ago but Ill ask if anyone has a copy.

Meanwhile heres something that he wrote on the Barbel Fishing World forum about how he approaches float fishing for Barbel which you may find interesting Ian.
