After the coming weekend the weather forecast isn't too tropical, a lot of rain and unsettled conditions so I made a point of getting out for some trotting today. Unfotunately I only had a couple of hours to trott which was during the latter part of this afternoon....usually a good time :). Because of my limited time to fish I stuck it out in one swim which didn't produce very much. I had one chub of about a pound and a half, a salmon parr and a barbel. I did hook another barbel and had it on for a few minuites, I played it hard and it didn't feel foul hooked at all, but when I got it to within a rod length away from myself the hook pulled out and had one maggot still hanging from it and the point of the hook was embeded dead centre of a large barbel scale!
Tomorrow is supposed to be good so all being well i'll be trotting again before the predicted rain which will no doubt make the river conditions un'trottable.
Since i only got one barbel here's two pictures of it LOL..?

Tigger,

Woah!  As pretty a fish as I've seen you catch.  I love that color.

Our fishing conditions have been in the doldrums.  We can't seem to shake summer this year - low 90'sF and high pressure.  The "guys" at coffee are getting impatient as fall is by far the best for schooling fish

Your right Phone, it is a lovely looking fish. I think they do start to look better as we get into autumn/fall.
As you say the next few weeks can be great for shoaling fish!

Just had a few hours out trotting, caught a few small chub to a pound and a half, a salmon parr, quite a few dace and one small barbel of about 3lb. Everything was caught whilst stood mid river and nothing being very large I couldn't be bothered to go ashore and take any pic's. Nice day to be out though :).

Just got back from an hours trotting, unfortunately "rain stopped play" as they say.....blimey, i'm a poet and I didn't know it lol.
The river was up a bit and full of brown sediment, probably sewage! There was an obcene downstream wind which made me work hard to present my bait where I wanted it to be. Anyhow, in the short spell I had I caught lots of dace very quickly the ones in the net head were the first ones I caught in the first swim I dropped in, after that I caught some really good sized ones but I was in too much of a hurry to take any more pictures, I knew rain was imminent! Pity about the rain stopping play like that as I think I would have had a good session.
