I would of thought you might have recognised the fish from my river trotting, they're chub.

Mikes wouldn't have been able to trundle over, he's in France so will be busy eyeing all the french chicks up!

The sun was out bright as a button today and the river had dropped to a fishable level, so later in tye afternoon away I went. As I walked down the banking there was a cold wind gusting from behind. The downstream wind did make things a little tricky when trotting and made me work to keep the float on the right track and travelling at the right speed down the swim. I was fishing an incoming tide and did ok from the strart catching chub and dace (phone, the chub are the larger ones in the net head). I kept the first 15 min's worth of fish in the net head and took a quick picture, spot the huge pidgeon chested dace!

I had quite a few nice dace in the hour I fished, I only fished an hour as the sunshine was extinguished by a banking of fast approaching black clouds. That was my que to skiddaddle back to the motor. Considerring I was the best part of a mile away from the car I got back to it pretty sharpish! The rain had just started as I got to the car and no more than 5 mins after that the heavens opened up. I was glad to get back wom for a brew and warm me neck after that nasty cold wind had been blasting it, only having a t-shirt on hadn't helped!!

A couple of pic's...

I had a few chub, got them on floating caster at first and floating bread later when trying for the carp.

As I type it's raining quite hard and i think it will be like that the whole day. It saves me watering the plants. I'm going to try floating caster next time I'm there. I assume no float, no weight just a freelined hook with a caster or two on it.

You still use a float to get out there, but a top and bottom float can help keep things floating, although I often use any float and squeeze 3 or 4 casters once on the hook, this squashes out the pulpy guts and seals it for a bit, trapping air in the empty shell. A lower diameter line also helps as it lays on the surface film better.

Foggy here until 10am and now it's lovely, bright sunshine and no wind!

Can't get fishing today though, darn it!!

Would have been ideal on yer peg at dusk.
