Windows 10 Start button not working

My daughter installed last weeks updates and now her Srart button has ceased to work. Any of our experts have any ideas. I ran sfc to check windows files and all came up clean

Perhaps downloading iobits start menu 8 will cure it ,its better than the win10 one anyway but is reversible which may do the trick

Windows button inoperative and she doesn't want to download anything as putting in a sd card or usb stick freezes the laptop. looks like a trip to the pc doctor. Whne shutting down is says an update function is running, which doesn't show in task manager
