Quiver-tipping at night

The green isotopes play tricks with my eyes they appear to move by themselves ,i prefer the smallest blue starlight but on a tip i am sure i would get the line fouled every cast ,ok as a small bobbin though

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Its far easier to curse the darkness than light one candle

If staying on after dark for an hour or so, just revert to touch legering.

Easily done, no need rummage in your bag for beta-lights.

We had a discussion on touch-legering a year or so back, will try to find it.

Later - just tried, but all I got was this post !

You can buy the Enterprise Tackle Quiver/Rod Tip Nightlite Adaptor Suitable for either with Isotopes or other chemical nightlites. These adaptors of a small groove bored out as to remove the tubing to open them apart, then put on the quiver, and the tubing on to close the adaptors, again these can slide up or down to the require diameter of the quivertip. I found using white chemical nightlites is better in the dark than using either green or red as sometimes the nightlites plays tricks with my eyes throughout the night.

I sometime use two of the adaptors - one on the second eye from the end tip and the third eye from the tip - would never put one near the end tip as it create a greater risk of damaging the quivertip when either casting out! .

Dave, I can see that touch ledgering will work well with bigger fish, but does it work with shy biters like roach?

Until you try it you'll never know just how much you can feel.

Find somewhere with a good supply of freely biting small fish and stick a hookful of maggots amongst them and give it a go - it doesn't have to be nighttime.

  • 2 weeks later...

I use a minimum amout of sellotape to put chemical lights on my beachcasters.

If it gets dark I just take a small pair of pliers and gently snap the chem light then shake or tap the rod to get it working.

When I get home and rods are rinsed any used chem lights are taken off and new ones put on ready for next time.

Take an inch of so of silver prismatic parcel tape. fold the end bit over itself and sick it lengthways to the tip so you have a square of tape sticking up from the rod tip. It's amazing how easy it is to see with just a tiny led light.

Well, it has worked from fish as small as minnows up to White Sturgeon of several hundred pounds.

As for "shy biting roach" I remember a reservoir containing roach-rudd hybrids up to five pounds (found dead and reported on here before)

They were so shy biting that we used to watch the meniscus of the line entering the water as an indicator. Come dark it was touch-legering or nothing. We had several over two pound, and the best, 3-12, I got touch legering one foggy November evening. There is a photo lost in the AN archives somewhere

.

In more general terms, I can distinctly feel the lightest of taps - even from crucians, probably the shyest biters of all on occasion

As Ajay said, you really need to try it before deciding it doesn't work - or as some might say "Have faith" :)
