Daytona Beach Orlando Area Inshore Saltwater Charters

Recommended Posts

Our water levels are high with clear ocean water pushed in the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon after Hurricane Matthew made a close pass along our coastline. Redfishing the flats in high water means prowling shorelines as some flats have deeper water over them than reds prefer, also flats that are normally super skinny grass are a good depth of 12” to 20 “ which fish like to feed in. Backwater holes, drop offs, and channels don’t change as much as they are normally 5 to 15 feet deep so not that much change with higher water levels. These backcountry fish like to eat shrimp dropped along their lairs no matter the water level. Still plenty of Mangrove Snapper, Sheepshead, Seatrout, Jack Crevalle, and Ladyfish as well as some Reds, Snook, and Drum in the backcountry area here in the Indian River at Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach. Young Cole caught the big one of his family’s mixed bag trip out with me recently, a good Redfish on light tackle made for an epic battle.......................

The big blow pushed loads of ocean water into the estuary and with it some fish which are normally ocean dwellers, such as Cutlassfish aka Ribbonfish caught the other day on one of my backwaters trips..................

Capt. Mike - really looking forward to a few days out with you in early November (and glad we didn't book for early October this year since Hurricane Matthew decided that was a good time to visit). This should be a great trip and more exciting than usual with the uncertainty of what might be biting given the water conditions. You always seem to have a knack for putting us on fish.

Note to any UK anglers planning a trip to Florida and wanting a break from the family fun of Orlando (Disney and the like), he offers a nice break from all of that and an inshore fishing trip that will be fun for the whole family regardless of their level of angling experience. A 3-4 kilo redfish in shallow water on light tackle is a real treat.

I use mostly lures but my wife prefers live shrimp and always catches more fish than I do.
