Interesting Braid

The line on my UL outfit was restricting my casting a bit last year and making a fair bit of noise coming through the rings.

After a bit of looking around, I ordered one of the Chinese 8 strand in 10lb. It arrived today and looks very good. It's about as thin and smooth as any braid I've ever seen and at less than a tenner for 300m, it's hard to beat.

Unfortunately, I've not tested it yet but as the price is set to drop again in a couple of days, I thought I'd post a link in case any of you jiggers are looking to try a new line on the cheap.

I've had two no shows on orders to date - but I've placed a lot of orders.

Initially, I wouldn't let them store my card details but relented after 12 months. If you're concerned, why not set up an account with no overdraft facility and trickle in just enough money to cover orders?

JV44 uses that site a lot and I think he bought some of that braid but in yellow. The stuff he has is super buoyant and very thin & smooth. He also bought a little camping stove and wind shield for a lot less than they cost in the UK, very good it is too;

I've used some of the no-name Chinese briads. Check the b/s as you go down the spool. It's usually bang on the quoted, unlike 'named' brands and it's worth checking the knots you usually use are good in the new braid.

You might get the odd duff one, but at the price you can afford to chuck the odd one out.

I'll answer the question anyway as it's a subject that is prescient for anyone looking to use a braided mainline with a flouro or mono leader for spinning or drop-shotting.

Forget GT knots and Bimini twists because they simply aren't needed and are a PITA to tie.

What you need is a nice simple double uni knot.

For the sorts of breaking strains used for coarse or (sea) bass fishing in the UK, I'd typically go with half a dozen turns on the mono side and 10 on the braid side.

So why not use a swivel?

You have travelled a long way to go fishing. You might be fishing at night - spinning for sea trout or bass. How happy are you going to be in your swivel knocks the liner out of your tip ring?

A knot also picks up less weed.
