Not sure the experiences of other jet setting anglers ,Vagabond? TonyU? Perhaps this angler looked shifty or his eyes were to close together?

Have never had any trouble, One exceptiom, - Iceland. They want to diisinfect your tackle on entry to the country (that's FISHING tackle Chesters !) unless you have a vet's certificate that it has already been done. The silly thing is that a fiver gets you the certificate - nothing whatsoever happens to the tackle.

Thanks for all the interesting replies.

For my stillwater perching that seems to have got me so interested this year I have switched to the Colin Dyson rig fully and have upped my rods slightly to set the hooks. I have also found some very good Drennan drop shotting hooks in size 2 that are both quite fine and absolutely ideal for hooking lives in front of the dorsal fin.

I have now increased my hook up rate and each time the hook has been nicely in the mouth of the perch rather than deep down where the mouth of the bait is.

Many thanks

John

It's very possible that "Circle Hooks" could further increase you Hook Up rate.

Make sure they are 'un-snecked' hooks. Snecked circles hooks can deep-hook. Un-snecked reduces this possibility and will generally only hook-up as they exit the mouth.

jaa,

Fine post. The word "snecked" or "un-snecked" does not appear in the English language. (Oxford Dictionary).

Would your referrence be to "barbed"?

Anyone but jaa have a clue??

(p.s. "sheck" is a latch or lock (sheck the door)

Phone your doing well with English, better than the Oxford Dictionary.

Just a shame you spell every thing wrong over the pond. Sneck is a good northern word for a latch or lock.

(p.s. sneck meaning barb must be a very very local thing, like just jaa's house.)

Very similar to the hooks that I mentioned back in post #13.

I do prefer the slightly rounder bend though.

All,

Would that be an offset circle octopus Ken? Or more like a bigger - say - 2/0 bass fishing hook. I can't remember many circle hooks on wire. Most are forged (?).

Lutra, wish I had something clever to say - uhhh??

Neither, they're just very wide gaped and short shanked. At first, I thought they would just can out of the fish's mouth but penetration doesn't seem to be a problem.

Sorry Ken I seem to have missed several posts there on page 2. You are right very similar and you seemed to have had the same experience as I have with their effectiveness.

We have a locally brewed beer called 'Sneck Lifter'. (Jennings brewery Cockermouth) It is supposed to refer to when people were a bit short on cash but had just enough to buy a beer to get them through the door (lift the 'sneck/ door latch) and take their place in the pub.
