Timesaving at supermarket

For weeks there has been a campaign at our local supermarket for people to place their "holiday" orders - prepaid - to be picked up on Dec 24th. "Save time !!! ", said the adverts

 

Yesterday (Dec 24th) Norma went early (7.30 am) to do the usual Saturday shop. She was back in just over an hour, and reported a queue, stretching right round the store, of some 60-70 people collecting their "holiday" orders. Whilst waiting to pay at check-out she kept an eye on the "holiday order" queue. Only two people dealt with in the ten minutes she had to wait. That's 12 per hour. Perhaps more check-out staff would come in later in the morning, but so would more customers !

 

Doesn't look like much of a time-saver to me. How long did you and yours spend in supermarket queues this yuletide ?

No queue at my Sainsbury, we use the selfscan system. Most impressed as you pack your bags as you go, click the device at the special checkout, pay and go to the car. Jobs a good one !!

No queues at all ,went with two neighbours in ones car to iceland on tuesday and straight through till ,3 freezers were full once more wont need another trip for 6 weeks .The ladies departed leaving us in aldershot

What we didnt get there we took home from lidl round the corner and got bus home and was home by 12

Christmas gift shopping starts boxing day and by november its all done

I dont use sainsbury self scan ,if i wanted to be served by a mindless automaton i would shop in tesco

Took presents to alton grandkids on thursday and picked up milk on way home 18 pints will do for a few days ,scottish grandkids box of goodies went friday before by courier which arrived monday ,job done

I did our last supermarket shop on the 18th, just went out locally for a newspaper and a couple of buns on Xmas Eve, I even stocked up with baccy on the 18th, got no need to go shopping again now until early in the New Year.

Edit: They are becoming so sophisticated I believe they use body scanners and tell you your card is in your front left pocket, and that you don't have quite enough cash for your purchase. Then asks if I want to proceed with the checkout)

Similar thing here, in Qld. Went through Woolies and 1 checkout open...Went to Coles and all checkouts open.

 

And...All cashiers do the packing.
