Silly Rule?

Remember of course - if it hasn't already been mentioned, You need to have 2 EA licenses if fishing 3 rods or more.

That's the law, whatever the fishery rules are - you are not protected by the fishery even if fishing 3 or 4 rods is allowed & you're caught with only the ONE License!! :rtfm:

Yes, the number of rods in relation to licenses held is something that as regular anglers we should know. However we are discussing what EA bailiffs compared with wardens/club 'bailiffs' can do. The latter have no authority to ask to see your license(s), so they won't know how many rods you are supposed to be using. For example I was fishing and had three rods set up, two were cast out with dead baits, The other was set up to float fish for perch. When I wanted to use that one I would reel in one of the pike rods, give the perch a go then revert to the two dead baits. A lake warden turned up, checked my permit (after I had checked his I.D.) he commented on my three rods and asked to see my license(s). I had to point out to him that he was not autherised to ask for my license(s), and so He wasn't getting to see them, and that how many rods I had set up was none of his business, as long as I was only using two..

Note that these rules will be changing this year, when a single three rod licence will become available.

Emma,

If your club writes it into there rules that bailiffs can ask to see the rod license then you have to show it. Not sure what the actual wording is now but it was given us by the EA Bailiff manager. All our bailiffs are also trained by the EA. The same goes for the free town waters where the park wardens and PCSO's have also been given this right.

Happily I don't belong to any club, the waters we fish are national park ones. As are the waters that Welliphant initially inquired about.

At one time any license owner could ask to see another anglers licence but i guess a punch on the nose had that bit removed?

The EA could put in the licence clauses that anyone could demand to see it and you by buying the license would have to comply

There's a two rod limit in paas however many licenses someone has. If someone is caught breaking the distance rule they could loose their membership depending on the decision made by the committee.

Some clubs do a lot of work for the benefit of members, environmental, maintenance, safe pegs, organise events, fish stocking, charity matches, control predators as well as bailiff for the benefit of the members. I.e. stop people using more than one peg, people fishing for free, safe environment. we have also been involved in removing drug dens.

Why would you not want to be in a club? Other than having a lot of free water that makes it unnecessary. I have free water run very near my house. I prefer to be in two clubs for the benefits they give.
