Steve Burke 177
Once again we've poor weather for the Fish-In! It's been cloudy and cold with the temperature being held down do a maximum of only 11C/52F thanks to a biting NE wind. The water temperature has dropped in the last 48 hours from 15C/59F to 13C/55F. Not surprisingly the tench haven't been feeding, although this last week most of the few tench caught have been out between 8 and 11pm, so there's hope yet for this evening. Interestingly there's been a high average size these last few days, something that often happens in a NE wind at Wingham. I've suggested before in an article on the Wingham web site that the fact that these fish continue to feed in adverse conditions may be one of the reasons why they're bigger. Despite the weather though a decent number of perch have been caught, nearly all 2 pounders. The perch spawned just a fortnight or so ago so many of these fish would then have been well over 3lbs. Interestingly, the best catch so far, plus the only tench, has come in the teeth of the wind! Here are the scores after my last trip round between 5 and 7pm: Main Lake Steve Walker: 6 perch all over 2lbs to 2-11 Stephen Daly (Dales): perch of 2-10 and 2-14 Peter Caunter (Worzel): 10 perch, 7 over 2lbs to 2-12 plus a tench of 7-02 Anthony Chance (Ant78): perch of 2-10 Kevin Clarkson (KAYC): perch of 2-07 Ray Burnett (River Rover): 4 perch, 3 over 2lbs including a PB perch of 2-08 Carp Lake John Caddick: 32-08 mirror Wingham Specimen Coarse & Carp Syndicates www.winghamfisheries.co.uk Beautiful, peaceful, little fished gravel pit syndicates in Kent with very big fish. 2017 Forum Fish-In Sat May 6 to Mon May 8. Steve Walker 941
Now seven perch, a 6-3 male tench, and a jack. And got bitten off at the net by a low double.
Rusty 284
Northerly wind forecast again for today and tomorrow though today it shouldn't be as strong. Nice that a good few people are catching perch, I don't remember that being the case for previous events, is that because more people are fishing for them this year or have they become particularly active? I've seen some pics of Steve Walker's perch and to be honest I'd rather catch those well proportioned lighter fish than the 3lb 'footballs' they would have been a couple of weeks ago. Good luck everyone, anything can happen at Wingham even if the weather isn't helping. It's never a 'six', let's put it back
Steve Walker 941
Definitely more active I would say. I have had a few on floatfished worm, but also three on fake maggots and one on pellet on the tench rods.
Steve Burke 177
The weather improved somewhat today but the maximum temperature was still 2c under the norm at 13C/55F. The wind was much lighter and swung round to the north and the sun was shining when we came out after a very successful auction. I'll report details of the winning bids on the auction page. A few tench have been caught, and as the sun lost its strength perch started to feed again. Highlight of the day though was a 56-08 mirror from the Carp Lake, the biggest ever caught on a Fish-In. This fell to Barry Goode who came to Wingham direct from a holiday in France, and the 56 was bigger than any he caught in France last week! The fish had a number of leeches on it so may only just have woken up. Here are the totals I know about as of my last round between 5 & 7pm: MAIN LAKE Colin Rennison (Maddog): 2-12 perch and a 5-00 tench Steve Walker: 9 perch, all over 2lbs, best 2-11, a 6-03 male tench and a jack Stephen Daly: (Dales):11 perch all over 1lb including 3 over 2lbs best 2-14, 2 roach about 10ozs and a jack. Peter Caulter (Worzel): 12 perch with 7 over 2lbs to 2-12, tench of 6-02, 7-02 and a PB tench of 9-00 Wayne McCully (Sharkbyte): 1-08 eel Anthony Chance (Ant63): 5 perch all over 2lbs to 2-10 Kevin Clarkson (KAYC): 2-07 perch plus a 1-12 eel Dave Benbow: 2-03 perch Bill Taylor: 7-10 tench Russ McCully (Russ): 2-03 perch plus 3 eels of 1 to 2lbs. Ray Burnett (River Rover): 8 perch, 7 over 2lbs including 3 PB perch to 2-11 CARP LAKE John Caddick: 32-08 mirror Barry Goode: PB UK mirror of 56-08 Edited May 7, 2017 by Steve Burke Wingham Specimen Coarse & Carp Syndicates www.winghamfisheries.co.uk Beautiful, peaceful, little fished gravel pit syndicates in Kent with very big fish. 2017 Forum Fish-In Sat May 6 to Mon May 8. Steve Burke 177
Nope. Some left early so I don't yet have all the results. I'll leave posting the final totals until everyone has posted. Steve Walker 941
Firstly, many thanks to Steve, Peggy and the team. I had a fantastic weekend, it's really the highlight of my angling year, no matter how it fishes. I had a very good swim, Meatballs, and I am sure that if the tench had been more cooperative I would have done well. Unfortunately they only seemed to be feeding lightly and only under cover of darkness. Still, the perch were on the munch, and I was delighted with my catch. I have never had a bag of quality perch like that, it's one to remember. Final results were; Perch 2lb 4oz 2lb 8oz 2lb 4oz 2lb 11oz 2lb 6oz 2lb 1oz 2lb 5oz 2lb 7oz 2lb 9oz Tench (male) 6lb 3oz 6lb 12oz 4lb 12oz Eel About 1lb Pike 2 about 3lb
