Well done to you phone for speaking about reality. Any deep hooked fish, in particular they start bleeding from the gills will DIE. End of. Most popular hooks in the u k are kamazan or equivalent and they don't rust so quick in sea or freshwater in any event.

 

In the u k our illustrious ANGLING TRUST, not only recommends cutting the line close as possible to the fish and send it back, they insist on it. The angling trust have worked on the common eel ban, tope ban and now bass ban for anglers.

 

Sending them back into the food chain with hooks attached is not only wasteful but what happens when the next fish or animal eats the dying fish?

 

Out of sight and out of mind.

I am not a metallurgist - why would a forged hook be any more or less likely to rust than a hook of the same alloy made by any other method?

I've caught a lot of fish with hooks in them and I#'ve caught lines with hooks attached which have clearly been in the water some time. deep hooking usually equals dead fish.

I don't think it's that it's more likely to rust Steve, just that forged hooks are usually heavier gauge and will take longer to break down.

 

I also think we should define 'deep hooked', to me it usually means, out of sight.

It usually means 4" perch to me lol

I actually caught one once hooking a maggot hanging out of the mouth of a perch with several maggots in its mouth ,it obviously refused to let go no matter what happened
