Another massacre

The sad fact is that events such as this will not lead to more gun control, it will lead to a massive increase in gun sales. It always does.

Seems like an appropriate time to resurrect this. It sums up the arguments for me.

BTW, if you are offended by bad language, don't watch.

There seems little point on discussing the issue of the number of guns involved.

None of the guns fired themselves - ergo, the discussion should concentrate on the nature of the gunman. After all, many Americans own lots of guns, but mercifully, very few run amok with them (yes, I know one is too many, but the vast majority of legitimate gun owners in this country are responsible citizens and I am sure that goes for any civilized society)

So, back to this gunman. "Deranged" said Trump. Well yes, but in what way? US police say they don't know. Many deranged people reach that stage via a period spent as single issue fanatics. The "single issue" might be religion, politics,or even artistic opinion - google "Portland Vase" Could this guy have had a hatred of pop music?

Andrew,

With his high roller "platinum" guest card the bell-boy took all 10 suitcases to his room for him.

Phone

My thoughts exactly. I got mine carried to my room and I think I blew a whole $20 on the video poker machines.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

All,

From October 2016 to Sept. 28, 2017, he purchased 33 firearms

Phone

Just this evening listening to Andrew Neal on the tv phone, ( a political commentator) and he quoted a few figures, not sure of the accuracy as they are his words not mine. During the War of Independance the 'British' 'managed' to kill 4,500 'Americans' and that, given the current figures on gun crime it is apparent that this would just be a 'bad month' in America now, and, that in truth Americans are far more effective and proficient at killing their own Countryman than any foreign army ever achieved!

I just wonder, perhaps, just if those figures are realised that there might be a change. Been reading and discussing this a lot, I think most agree that something has to be done, the main problem seems to be how to do it!

There may finally be an answer to one of the biggest unanswered questions from last week’s Las Vegas mass shooting. Police say that the cryptic note found in Stephen Padlock’s hotel room were really calculations to help him kill as many people as possible. Four of the officers who were the first to storm into the hotel room at the Mandalay Bay hotel talked to CBS’ 60 Minutes and revealed what was on the note.

“I did notice, a note on the nightstand near his shooting platform. I could see on it he had written the distance, the elevation he was on, the drop of what his bullet was going to be for the crowd,” said David Newton, from the Las Vegas Police Department’s K-9 unit. “So he had had that written down and figured out so he would know where to shoot to hit his targets from there.” The note didn’t include any of the calculations, but rather the “final numbers.” ABC News confirms that the note had numbers for wind, trajectory, and distance, among others.

Newton went on to describe the “eerie” feeling of storming the hotel room while law enforcement was still trying to figure out what was going on. “Very eerie. Yeah, the dust from the explosive breach. And then you have the flashing lights,” Newton said. “And that looked straight, like, out of a movie, you know?”

Investigators increasingly believe that Paddock suffered from a severe mental illness that was likely undiagnosed, according to sources who talked to ABC News. Even though he was well off financially, the 64-year-old seems to have had trouble building significant relationships with people. That seems to be in line with what Paddock’s girlfriend, Marilou Danley, told investigators, saying she witnessed a physical and mental deterioration over the past few months of the man who spent hours playing video poker.
