Spinning for estuarine sea trout?

Phone - you have migratory Rainbow Trout on your side of the pond known to all as "Steelheads".

Don't think we get these in the UK as all the rainbows over here originate (at least) from fish farms & therefore the urge to migrate to the sea is curtailed.

Not really sure if these "Stockies" (originally) have the ability to breed??

We do have at least one breeding population of rainbow trout in the uk - in the Derbyshire Wye. It’s not clear why they survive, though it is notable that unlike the strains stocked elsewhere here, they are a spring rather than winter spawning strain.

Of course, for many years now all stocked rainbows have been infertile triploids.

The only conclusion for me then, is they must have been sneaked in as wild fish or spawn from other shores!!

Yes Steve I know that - I'm just saying they could be from Wild North American ie Fertile stock.

In other words - illegally stocked. (though turned out very well all the same)

Welcome to Lancashire, home of some fantastic fishing. I have a friend does a lot of u/l lure fishing for flatties, once you're settled I'll put you in touch. drop me a message or something, I barely use any forums nowadays though so I'll remind myself to check.

I was thinking of having a chuck with the UL gear. I guess at slack water, though?

Dingy on the Christmas list perhaps?

Careful though me and my mate parked in Christchurch harbour at slack and suddenly realised we were travelling very fast seawards when the tide started ebbing so choose the anchor carefully a 'fisherman's" anchor isn't always the best choice if muds involved

We had a collapsible one at that time but upgraded to a folding flute version ,once we got our big boat we had a set of proper ones and a spare engine !

If you do go down the boat path don't get to ambitious you might as well just stand on the bank throwing money in
