Why would a 3d printer leave sprue? You get that casting or injection moulding ! (As far as I know?)

I have seen fully functioning multi legged machines made on them ,sprue would make it impossible to make

Cycloid gears are not new but I guess someone found a modern use ,not a reversible motion so limited

I think it was printed on a home made 3d printer using crappy ABS chesters.

 

There are applications where you don't want reversible gears. They are used where you want loads of torque and no slop. Cycloid gears and worm drives used in all sorts of modern machinery; robots and big 3D printers for example. Cycloid gears don't get as hot as worms either.
