Tree ID Please

There's one that grows in the woods near a pool I occasionally fish that I still haven't identified. It's a shrub with leaves that look exactly like those of a sweet chestnut but it's an evergreen.

A very pretty plant for the back of a border.

No, I've never seen it flower or fruit and while that's clearly a holly with glossy/waxy leaves, this isn't.

It's a couple of years since I've been up there but I've just remembered that I layered a couple of low branches with bricks that last time I fished it so I might go see if I have rooted plants to dig up in the spring.

 

Another evergreen tree with chestnut like leaves that is UK hardy is the loquat. I have one in the garden and while it gets a bit grubby at this time of year, it's 30cm long leaves look very impressive in the summer.

Nah, my phone is only suitable for hand to hand combat - but it will probably still work if I fall in a river.
