Catch reports

Tigger,

I got out today (YIPPIE) for almost 3 hrs. Big learning curve coming for me. I caught 54 dinks (they would fit between the white handles on your reel.)

Didn't care for the quills (1 6in and 1 8in) everything went as planned using a band but more to the story later

First, the whole damn rig is to light. rod and reel perfect. Timing is way off and hookset was a comedy. I think I threw 10 or 11 right back over my head having launched them from about 20 feet out. I let several swallow and hooked the back of the eye more times than I'm proud to say.

I have pictures in .jpg format but can't seem to post them. Any suggestions ??

Try a 4-6 inch quill mr bush or use the dog

Yahoo, well done Phone :). Sounds like your rod is way to powerfull and your striking like a panther lol.

Look forward to seeing your pic's :).

Phone, you see why UK float rods are the way they are (long, tippy action)? Casting light float tackle with a short, stiff rod is not easy, and getting line pickup without striking too hard is difficult too.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Phone, but you need a bit of that finesse I keep mentioning.

If you are using a short rod, 5 or 6 feet, then you must have been fishing pretty close in to be able to pick up the line, and send the fish airborne over your head. You'd be better off using a 5metre whip for that kind of fishing.

I remember many years ago, when I was a kid, seeing someone strike so hard, that he just had part of a lip on the hook!

Keep practising, we'll make a proper angler of you yet. :fishing:

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

My wifes first fish taunted us in a mummified state for several weeks ,her question was the floats gone what do i do ,jerk the rod upwards i said ,she did with a 12ft rod and a 4" perch flew out of the water and got tangled in a tree behind us about 20 ft up

Heaven knows where it would have landed if she did the same with my 17ft one! Mind being carbon it probably would have snapped and the perch survived

  • 4 months later...

Went to the River Ouse near Bedford, it was VERY windy coming right at me.

Didn't catch much but did manage to catch the target which was a decent Perch, also lost one unfortunately.

A maggot feeder with a hook bait of Lob worm tipped with a red maggot was the method.

Nice perch, and kudos for getting out on the bank.

February, perfect weather, rivers in good trim, me....staggering about like an extra from the Walking Dead.

Now, me almost back to normal, had rain, sleet, hail, snow, and very strong winds, rivers in flood, a bloody Welsh named storm bearing down on us, and the end of the proper season in a couple of days.

Feeling pee'd off doesn't cover it. :angry::cry:
