On Saturday I go to Perpignan in southern France for a week for a family holiday. Not sure to whether to take any tackle. I assume the water temperature will be too high for much in fresh water? I know little about sea fishing, but any advice would be welcome.

Unless it is very unusual the French-Riviera region should be fine until middle of July - August. Avg. fresjwater temperature about 70 f (21.5 c?). Rivers couple degrees cooler.

Neither do I mate, but I always take some rods (like 9 foot, 4 piece NGT's - cheap but good for the money) just to wet a line using more or less freshwater style, but heavier line. (Waggler & Bomb from rocks/pier/beach)

 

Pellet Waggler floats are good for Sea, (peeling/filing some of the weight off so I can get a bit more shot down the line) that way you're not spoiling other decent ones for home.
