Same here.

I've heard a lot of criticism from anglers that said there wasn't enough angling content. It wasn't meant to be a purely angling programme, just two mates discussing life's problems, and absurdities, while spending some of the time fishing.

Even my wife enjoyed it, and she doesn't fish.

John.

I wouldn't say they're just two m8s discussing lifes problems and obsurdities.

They're actors, acting and making money, they don't live in the same world as the normal everyday person.....they're just playing games and getting paid for playing.

I've never even watched one of the programmes as I can't stand either of 'em.

I'm pretty sure neither of their recent heart operations, were acting Ian, and if you'd watched it, you would have seen that their recovery from these were the main topic of conversation. Mortimer had never fished, (and it showed). Whitehouse is a life long angler, and suggested that angling would be good therapy to help Mortimer recover from, and come to terms with, a triple heart bypass, and a near death experience.

Sure there would have been some orchestrated scenes, but there was a hell of a lot of adlibbing as well as daft banter, between two long time friends.

If their humour isn't to your taste, then you might not have liked the programme, and were right not to watch it. But, it reminded me of some of my more relaxed days on the bank, in good company, having a laugh, just enjoying the day, with no pressure.

A far cry from the angling 'industry' that seems to be popular today.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Hello John, good to speak to you again and I hope your all good bud :).

I know they both had health problems etc and that's not good for anyone but when I saw the programme advertised I thought they where playing on that point a little too much in order to get viewings. Regarding the banter, i'd prefer to be with my own pals having our own :).

They both remind me of the scrotes that where in monty python, public school boys who've never done a real days graft in their lives, I just don't like em to be honest.

I haven't seen any angling programme that I like for some time now. For me personally the only one I can watch is river monsters with Jeremay wade and because he keeps on sensationalising things all out of proportion I often switch that off.

Hi Ian, I'm still plodding on, not been fishing yet. Got my licence, and sorted my gear out, but then a bout of illness, followed by the death of my brother, put it on hold. I used to go fishing a lot with my brother, and his death has made me more determined to get back on the bank, once this drought passes.

I see you're still barbel bashing, I hope the Ribble has fared better than the Wharfe, I had a recce trip out to Wetherby, and I've never seen the river as low in all the years I've fished there.

As to fishing programmes, I'm a bit picky, and River Monsters drives me up the wall, for the reasons you mention. I refuse to watch carp based ones as well, I can't stand all the hype and advertising that seem to go hand in hand with it.

But it's each to their own, and I know I'm not in the 'same swim' as many of todays anglers. :D

Sorry to hear about your healthJohn, and even more to hear about your brother ...very sad bud.

You just gott'a plod on though and keep goin as best you can. Fingers crossed for you and your health improves and your greif levels off.

Regarding the fishing I have had some good sessions but for the last two or three season I have deffo noticed the barbel haven't been so keen to take a trotted bait, not got the faintest idea why?

I know fish have been in the swims and so on occassions have switched to touch legerring which gave me instant success! Best sessions numbers wise this year (for barbel) have been 14 and 18, not as prolific as previous years but as I say they seem to be more fussy these days. Had one trotting session where I had ten small barbel ranging from seven or eight ounces to a couple of pounds :). I've had some very nice chub with quite a few topping 6lb and lots of smaller ones ranging from micros to a pound or so, so it looks lime a good recruitment for the future.

The river is very low but at least the fry haven't been being left in pools to dry out everytime it rains as normally happens....maybe this lack of rainfall will yeild an abundance of young fish in the coming years...fingers crossed for that:).

I can't watch river monsters, he would try to make out a gudgeon was a man eater. Plus all that "fish on, Fish on". never watched a Robson all the way through as he is so damn noisy. The program with the ex-athelete was as bad. At least this was close to what i think fishing is about. The only other recent program enjoyed was 'in the footsteps of Mr Crabtree with John Bailey. I have not seen any of the 'catching the impossible' series so cannot comment.

I get everything you've said bb :).

J Bailey strikes me as being one of, if not the most useless anglers that ever walked the face of the earth.....what a complete Utter fool!

Did you see that stupid set up he used for the barbel, that stick for a bait stop?....he's just incompetent lol.
