A nice dram

Not sure if we have any whisky drinkers on here but I've just had a price drop alert for Bowmore 12 Year Old.

A very nice drop and £23.20 is the lowest price it's been for several years.

If you fancy giving it a try, don't hang around as it's likely a limited supply.

Don't forget to opt for free delivery if you don't have Prime.

Cant remember what Bowmore is like, but I am a burning hospital kind of guy.

Some Islay smokiness but not near as much as a Talasker or similar, there's also a sweeter vanilla/fruit hint to it that gives it quite a complex flavour profile.

Too late anyway. It's now back up to £30 a bottle.

I did OK. I got two bottles of Bowmore 12 year old just two days after picking up three bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label for just £17.60 per bottle.

Amazon whisky offers are like busses. There are none for months and then a bunch come along.

I have a dozen or so favourites tracked using CamelCamelCamel.

I do like a nice wikky, but in my Gin period just now - Hic'.

A little bird tells me that Aldi's gin in the green bottle is good enough and cheap enough to make listing gin bargains a bit redundant.

If you have prime, this might interest you though.

I've also been quite taken with the renaissance in gin distilling. When it was just Gordons or similar I could take it or leave it, but some of the new ones are really interesting.

This gin thing has been a very clever bit of advertising, similar to the prosecco, and cider ones in recent years.

My wife and her mates are into it now. She works for a firm of lawyers and they have several 'dos' during the year. Earlier this year she was at one, (with a free bar), and went to get a G&T, the barman asked "what gin would you like?". "What have you got?" they said. It ended up with four of them at the bar, and the barman giving a lecture of the various gins they stocked, (about 15), and a sample of each. I went to pick her up at the end of the night, and ended up running a couple of her friends home as well. It was trip I will remember, and keep reminding them of, for sometime. :drunk:

Personally, I don't like the stuff. :yucky:

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

There is marketing, no doubt, but it's mostly down to a change in HRMC rules after a legal challenge by Sipsmith which made small scale gin production viable. A more diverse market with smaller players means that more diverse tastes can be accommodated. Imagine if it were only possible to make Whisky on the scale of Grouse or Bells, or beer on the scale of Carling. Everything would be lowest common denominator, don't frighten the horses blandness. Which is where gin was.
