I know what you mean. I buy almost all of my tackle second hand these days, for the same reason.

I dont buy any i still use the reels i bought in the 70's ,my only concession was a pair of carbon carp rods i bought in the late 80's and a pair of diawa bait runners at the same time.

End tackle i have by the box load the rod i use down the river is a fiberglass PDQ 14ft rod ,it still appears to work so why change?

Sea fishing is different it doesnt last long but is far better than 70's gear lol
