an African born soldier who is suing the MOD for £150,000 because no-one told him to take warm clothes when he went on an exercise on Salisbury Plain

 Those sill M.O.D people should have known a person from a hot country will freeze in cold Great Britain. Give them a slap on the hands someone

African origin soldiers are 30 times more likely to suffer cold-related injuries than indigenous Europeans.

Claims for non-freezing cold injuries suffered by servicemen have soared by an astonishing 1650% between 2006 and 2016 and black servicemen suffered 40.1% of recorded cold injuries in the British Army, despite comprising just 0.1%* of British forces personnel.

And the response to discovering that people of African origin may not be sufficiently robust to fight winter wars in a northern European theatre is predictable.

The real question is why is it that in these tough economic times, the army is struggling to recruit working class British lads from traditional military backgrounds - I mean, the advertising is spot on:

*That figure seems rather low. Black an ethnic minority people make up jut over 2.5% of army personnel but I can't find any breakdown of that number - I suspect that it may be people identifying as black African.

Yet their countrymen come in vast numbers to live here!

What next you can sue the highways department because you got knocked down crossing a motorway ,it amuses me people join the forces then try and sue the government when people fire back at them or they get blown up fighting in far off countries ,when has lack of logic or common sense been an avenue to get money?

What next a fireman sues because he gets burnt?

Every choice you make has consequences if you dont like what they could be dont follow the choice!

Sweden has 110 thousand africans lets see THEM sue when it gets cold ,hopefully sweden will give them the finger!

There were c 3.5 mil brit forces (inc empire troops?) How many sued because they got cold and most were forced to attend unlike today

Get more nepalese simple ,aldershot could squeeze them back in when folkestone is full hopefully they will dislodge the africans who seem to be filling the place up the gov dont think we see the difference!

He's right - and for an Army soldier to give kudos to the Marines speaks volumes - the two old boys that I worked with aftter school were still ribbing one another about their respective services 40 years after the war, and had been at it already for 15 years already when I started there.

BTW: Nice to see you still about and posting..

The next generation army is going to be full of individuals (Snowflakes) who think the world owes them..if you guys remember the old Walter out of the old Beano...

I mean, even in the Army, they are so pampered, so protected that the whiff of a battle where the rules of COD4 don't apply they'll run for the hills..no re-spawn after being shot in this game.. They don't know what discipline is because since the 1980's there hasn't been any so the drill Sergeant is going to come as a big shock and they will have no respect for rank so the need for an even bigger defaulters table will cost the Army a fortune..

How will these people have the ability to kill their enemy without at least 3 boxes of Kleenex to wipe either end?

There is also this, listening to my son talking a year ago about military service he asked this question:

"What's the point in fighting for your country if 30 years down the line someone is going to try to have you prosecuted for doing what your country wants you to do now?"

As a result, my son, who wanted to go into the catering corps, decided to do something else instead.. the military lost a great cook.

All,

Perhaps somewhat related.

While moose hunting near the arctic circle we had a chap in the adjoining accommodation who didn't bring a gun. Of course, in the evening setting about in the lodge we were all curious.

He was a researcher on alcoholism which is an extremely serious problem among the Inuit natives. He had two study groups. One from a temperate climate and horrible drinking water. Consequently, wine was the beverage of choice for all age groups.

To make this as brief as Phone can possibly make something brief. "Eskimos (northern indigenous tribes) can convert sugars to energy a "bizillion" times faster and more efficiently than the wine drinkers. A requirement for survival.

Of course, a half pint of alcohol will cause 48 hrs of havoc for them and they crave alcohol. They are "drunk" in seconds rather than minutes.

Steve,

Many thanks. Interesting to me at least.

This "researcher" was Jewish. I suspect his "other" control group was also Jewish. Mind you, my encounter was in the late 1960's. I always wondered what the outcome of his study was.

Curious, without looking what is the latitude differential - Denmark and Northern Canada?

For sure, the "guides" in Canada were a pretty pure breed. And, I suspect, although I don't know the genetic pool was rather small.

Don't blame the young generation. Blame the generation of w@nkers that brought them up.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
