Vegan in "thinks their sh*t doesn't stink" shocker

I think it's likely that people who eat a lot of vegetables have healthier gut bacteria than people who don't, a lot of them live off fibre, but it's more what they do eat than what they don't.

This was an interesting outcome from a poo transplant;

Colleen Kelly, a gastroenterologist at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, has carried out around 200 faecal transplants for people with C. difficile infections. In 2010, she gave a transplant to a 32-year-old woman whose teenage daughter was the donor. The girl was borderline obese, says Kelly, but otherwise healthy. The transplant was a success and cleared up the woman’s C. difficile infection.

Around a year later the woman returned, complaining of massive weight gain. She had always been a normal weight, but had become obese despite diet and exercise regimes – even a medically supervised liquid protein diet. “She said she felt like there was a switch inside her body,” says Kelly. “No matter how much she ate or exercised, she couldn’t take the weight off. She’s still overweight now, and she’s very frustrated.”

It is the first recorded case of obesity apparently resulting from a faecal transplant (Open Forum Infectious Diseases, doi.org/zzr). Since it’s a one-off, Kelly says she can’t be sure of cause and effect. The antibiotics the woman also took could instead be to blame, says Martin Blaser, a microbiologist at New York University, who has found that these drugs can trigger obesity by wiping out “good bacteria”.

Blimey that's a class excuse to comfort eat after realizing you've downed someone elses crap!

Why not just take living bacteria like normal folks

As said antibiotics will kill gut bugs hense anyone on them should be eating yoghurt or drinks with bugs to replace them

It does look as if the microbiome of the gut could have lots of previously poorly understood effects on health. I wonder - those people who do sod all exercise, eat like pigs and stay skinny, while others gain a pound if they look at a packet of crisps. Also, the rising diabetes and obesity rates, particularly in childhood, and the widespread use of antibiotics...

I think the gut is a far more complicated and far more integrated system than what looks like a long tube.

It would be interesting to see how having a colostomy bag changes things asides the obvious mechanical difference

I remember Fry having problems with worms near his Pelvic splanchnic nerves in a futurama documentory and thats near your ass hole never mind the other ??? Feet

I read a story about some coprophiliacs who would feed on marzipan diets so their poo would taste nice.

Well I suppose it might make the marzipan taste marginally less vile...

For curing acne no but there is evidence in the side effects of antibiotics

"There's some evidence that probiotics may be helpful in some cases, such as helping prevent diarrhoea when taking antibiotics, and helping to ease some symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)"

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/probiotics/

Even a small effect is better than no effect ,i am rather doubtful of probiotic capsules though ,i asked a large ebay retailer if the contained cultures were living ? I got no answer yet describing their wares as viable CFU ,corpses only are viable as corpses

I had 2 chest infection over christmas which entailed antibiotics and having a lifetime of gut problems those yoghurts do help whether it was a placebo effect i dont care as the "end" result was better than without

PS nice to see your still about i thought those somalis had beheaded you in some petty neighbourhood squabble

Bugger on reflection was it a chest infection or a pre warning warning of last thursday?
