All,

I think because of frequency and emotional impact the two greatest advances in medicine have been eyes and heart.

I too suffer on both accounts. Fit as a fiddle.

My brother-in-law has just had his cateracts done, one eye about 4 months a go, and the second a couple of weeks ago. His first one is brilliant, the second had him worried because he kept getting a slight 'haze' over it. He told the Dr, and was told to let it 'settle down', and 2 weeks later, it's almost as clear as his first one.

He's 81, and has now been cleared to drive again.

All the best Ken

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Yeh, all the best Ken

I am still awaiting my second cataract removal. One would have to be pretty clueless not be apprehensive about an eye op, but I must say my first cataract op went very well

I suppose I should do an update...

The procedure was done on Tuesday and was a YAG laser capsulotomy - should anybody ever find themselves due the same thing.
It was pretty much as shown in the video I posted earlier but it takes a lot more laser bursts than they showed.

In total, it took about 10 minutes and there was no pain, although the "clicks" aren't very pleasant - not surprising really because each"click" is the laser vaporising tissue in your eye.
The improvement in vision is rather impressive, although I do have lots of floaters that are debris from the surgery, including a big one that is the disc of material that they cut out.
The floaters will apparently clear over the next week or so.
I was back at work on Wednesday although I have been feeling a bit of motion sickness from all the moving floaters.
The consultant confirmed that there are no restrictions on sport (including swimming) after the surgery and I've continued commuting by bike.
Hopefully I'll be able to see a float now.

Thats good ,floaters disapear but i found after i was knocked off my bike and woke in the hospital i had lots suddenly appeared from somewhere so i guess that they get stuck to the walls of the eye my head hitting the ground woke them up ?

Why they dont suck them out i dont know i had months of annoyance until they lessened.

Some are strange and i should google why but some appear but in both eyes so probably not floaters at all but imagined in the brain?

Not my cup of tea but i suppose if it had to be done it would be and teeth gritted!

I should wear glasses but now i dont drive i dont bother i have no need for perfect sight ,i always wonder what the baseline is for perfect sight what is it based on figures dreamed up in victorian times using dodgy equiptment ?is our sight being made worse by unscrupulous opticians flogging cheap plastic glasses at many times their worth using figures based on 150 year old data?
