Scrap free tv licence for pensioners

And the little voices in your head can answer this are you insinuating that all pensioners who dont qualify for pension credit are awash with cash then you have heard of the poverty trap then !!! My mother-in-law fell straight into just that pennies off help she needed when she lost her husband and yes there are a lot of very wealthy pensioners and lot of very very poor ones as well and not of all them voted Brexit but you can guess which category did .

For crying out bloody loud, this is ridiculous.

You're ranting on about something I haven't mentioned. I haven't insinuated anything about pensioners being "awash with cash", your little voices must have told you that. I did say that my wife has had to work an extra 5 years, so I understand all about that. But the change in the pension age has nothing to do with my original post, can't you see that?

I've got to go, it's my grandsons nursery open day for Fathers day, my son has to work so I'm standing in. At least I might get a more adult conversation there, amongst the 3 to 4 years olds.

Deranged ramblings of a madman!

Trouble is now he has two threads to continualy whine and whine and whine about brexit

Strange he rarely posts on anything else you would think he would be on the sea fishing section but strangely not ,perhaps whining and rambling on that section would get him caught out even more so saves it for non fishing

What section of pensioners voted brexit and the link to the proof please!

? oh dear John the truth hurts you have had some stick for voting Brexit you have admitted that on here whats its headline NON fishing forum .As for writing about fishing I do that practically every single day and are extremely good at it you dont get booked near on 7 days week for being a gob shite I do know plenty though who are have all the gear and no idea stacks of them about .

I will ask you again because you didnt answer when we Brexit supposedly as the EU has cost woman there rise in state pension when we Brexit do you think it will it revert back to what it was the Brexiters scream how bad the EU is and all its faults the Golden Fleece awaits .

Back to the original post!!

It's a bit like British pensioners being awarded the £400 winter fuel allowance when they live in Benidorm.

It costs more to Administrate & means test it thanh it does to just pay it.

I'm not taking any sides here - just saying.

In the Lake District, there are some incredibly wealthy pensioners who can very easily afford the tv licence. In Barrow in Furness there are many many people who can't afford the licence fee. Surely a fair vetting system shouldn't be too difficult?

Personally I'd scrap the TV licence for everybody and make the BBC commercial but I despair at the number of people who want ever more layers of pointless inefficient bureaucracy in order to enforce some silly socialist dream of everybody being equally well off despite only some of the people getting off their fat lazy backsides to earn a crust.

Perhaps, if the good people of Barrow in Furness had taken Norman Tebbit's advice 38 years ago and got on their bikes, they wouldn't be struggling to pay for a TV licence.

That's a sarcastic piece of generalisation Ken. The idea that just anyone could go down the road and find employment was naïve to say the least. It wasn't just the Northwest that was raped, it was the majority of the industrial areas, and many are still suffering through lack of investment by both Government, and private industry.

Tebbit showed his naivety in his faith in the almost useless YOP schemes, and chances of employment for older skilled men, in this interview.

It wasn't all because of "fat lazy backsides". Those who caused the situation, were more to blame, and laid the foundations of the "fat lazy backsides" culture of today.

Why is there a lack of investment?

If there is pool of wiling labour that will commit to taking on a job at a fair wage and applying themselves, businesses should be queuing up to take advantage and in fact, we find that in 2016, the unemployment rate for Barrow-in-Furness was recorded at 5.6%, which isn't very different from the rest of the country.

We still see that 5.6% of the population whining about the lack of the very opportunities that they themselves are too idle to seek out.
