lol

I remember moaning before to mates that my PVA bags kept melting. I was putting sweet corn in them. Been on the beer the night before and wondered why wet corn was melting the bags biggrin.png

I think i've only ever used pva bags once and they kept melting before I cast them out lol.

I dont like using PVA bags because of the chance of trapping air inside them, but I do occasionally use PVA mesh tubing full of small pellets and hemp, attached to my lead or hook when after beards, and Im fishing a deepish swim where I am unsure where my loose feed is going to hit the bottom.

I also like PVA string when Im Carp fishing at mid to far distances when I am having trouble catapulting my loose fed baits accurately due to the wind.

Fruit Flavoured PVA bags? I cant say I have seen them, but If they also had fruit flavoured PVA mesh (because I dont like PVA bags) then I might give them a try if I saw them; but as for the bitter taste of PVA putting fish off; well Ive heard this being banded about but its never stopped that many Barbel or Carp from taking my baits, or from homing in on the contents, so I think its exagerated somewhat.

Dales, Keith has jogged my memory, it was mesh tubing that you tie off when filled with bait. It was raining hard and the bloody rain was melting them as I tried to cast out!

It was well worth buying the stuff as the tube proved to be perfect for my float carrying tube whilst trotting. I have even thought about buying some more just for the tube!

All,

Somewhere in the '70s I actually thought the Brits "knew" something about carp fishing. Indeed, I learned a great deal - some "what to do" and some "what NOT to do."

I actually caught my pb using PVA string to tie off a 35 - 40 foot zig-rig in 80 ft of water. The goal was to fish the thermocline which I also discovered with a PVA tied off zig-rig and a thermometer (actually several attempts).

Point is I learned about PVA from the sharing by British anglers. Until then I thought PVA was sewer pipe.

Any moist baits in pva bags or mesh can only be used with an oil based medium, or dry bait.

Or have I come in missing something??

You could dry sweetcorn off with kitchen paper & use it like that or add some edible oil or oil based glug.

Oil has no effect on pva.

Martin,

I used to have issues with the string not melting at all. Just shrivel up into a blob.

In the UK our PVA string comes in various thicknesses which all take different times to melt,; from a few seconds up to a a couple of minutes max. Maybe you were using PVA string that was far too thick for the task, or of a sub quality, as Ive never had any of my PVA failing to melt. In fact I sometimes wish that the PVA that I string my loose boilees with would take even longer to melt away especially after I miscast.
