Traffic

Since I came back from a weeks holiday in September, I've noticed a significant increase in the amount of road traffic in my area. Speaking to a few others, it seems I'm not the only one who's noticed it. I realise that putting the clocks back, causing it to get dark earlier, and the very bad weather we've had could have had an impact on traffic numbers, but it seems that it has also had a 'knock on' effect on driver behaviour. I see more instances of 'road rage', people being 'cut up', and selfish behaviour in general. This applies to motorists, motor cyclists, and cyclist in fairly equal numbers. We've had more road accidents, including those involving pedestrians, causing more traffic jams, which in turn causes more frustration, and anger. Leeds was always promoted as the 'Motorway city of the North', with links north, south, east and west, but what the planners didn't anticipate, was that it only takes one traffic incident on the M1, M62 or M621, and the whole city is gridlocked, especially where I live, in the south of the city.

Is this a local thing, or has it got worse everywhere, and does this year seem worse to anyone else?

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

I realise that there is a yearly increase in the number of cars on our roads, but this year/winter, it seems to be that the increase is bigger than usual, and the effect on road users in general is a negative one.

My dashcam developed a fault, and I didn't use it for a while, yesterday I was 'cut up' so many times, I had to get another just to cover myself. I had six very near misses, in a 10 mile journey, and a few lesser ones. Drivers just either pulling in front of me, without signalling, or signalling after moving over. A few of them were less than a foot away from hitting, and I braced myself for the car behind hitting me, fortunately at least some drivers are alert enough to react. These were at speeds between 30 and 50 mph. The drivers I've spoke to, are all saying the same thing, we expect a few idiots on the road, but this year seems exceptionally bad. It's almost like there has been an epidemic of a 'crap driver virus', and it's spreading.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
