Sorry to hear you're not well Elton.

I'm working through this and two colleagues in my small team have been ill with it so far and  are slowly making a recovery. It's been a crappy ride for them!

Sadly, two people on the team have already lost relatives.

My extended circle of friends includes several in healthcare, including a consultant anesthetist at a major hospital and they are having a rough time right now.

I had to fight to get basic safety protocols adhered to at work, so if anyone else is still working in a non-healthcare area, I've linked the cleaning guidelines below - they are not optional for employers.

Government guidance for employers is to:

frequently clean and disinfect objects and surfaces that are touched regularly, using your standard cleaning products”.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-employers-and-businesses-about-covid-19/guidance-for-employers-and-businesses-on-coronavirus-covid-19

Government guidance to employers also states that:

All surfaces that the symptomatic person has come into contact with must be cleaned and disinfected, including:

  • objects which are visibly contaminated with body fluids
  • all potentially contaminated high-contact areas such as bathrooms, door handles, telephones, grab-rails in corridors and stairwells

Everything that comes through my door is either dunked in milton solution for 15 minutes if waterproof or cleaned with propanol! The packaging is dumped if cardboard the contents will most probably be machine packed so safe biscuits etc decanted into a plastic box if no plastic packaging in the box .Whilst theres concern over to much plastic packaging in this place its good the outside packet could be contaminated but the food safe in their plastic internal wrapping.letters etc from big arganisations utilities etc will be machine processed but ofcourse the envelopes treated with suspicion and hands washed after opening!

PS write on the tins whats in them with a scriber or its pot luck if all the lables come off in the soak! Tins for long term storage should have their seams sprayed with enamel i have a box of camping gaz cylinders treated this way in a garden box fine after 20 years that were treated with old fashioned chrome bumper enamel (cant buy it anymore it was banned under the VOC directive )

The place where they are unpacked cleaned with propanol

Then the operator goes through the same regime hands and arms washed with anti bacterial soap then propanol ,luckily i have a few litres of propanol its expensive now!If its a big delivery clothes go in the washer! I managed to get hold of 6 bags of compost yesterday they will be fine after a few days in the sun ,the operator though had a shower after wheel barrowing it home !

I put a little glycerine in the propanol to make it better on skin its 99.9% stuff! Seems over the top but a few minutes now could save a long time in a grave.as to household cleaners i use them with reservation if they say kills 99% of household germs etc how is this statement achieved being dunked in the stuff for an hour in a lab ? We dont know so dont trust it!

Saw yet another lie on the bbc someone was saying the last pandemic was in 1918 there was one in 2009 ffs!

Thanks for all the kind comments. She's well on the road to recovery now, thank you. 7-days locked away, but still rough for a few days when she was out. We can only assume it was coronavirus, obviously, but it did seem to tick the boxes. Scared the life out of the poor girl, but she's been one of the lucky ones.
