There's nothing on the site to say but the Met Office forecast for coastal areas and inshore waters usually extends up to 12 miles offshore. Any further out and you want the shipping forecast. Looks like about 12 miles to me.

Interesting the purple line yes it appears to  be  the 12 Limit line but why they would put it on the weather  map I ain’t sure .As for the inshore forcast being out to 12 mile , the weather inside of 12 miles being closer to the mainland can vary tremendously with wind and sea state especially in summer with the heat compared  to say 20 miles from the shore , I have experienced plenty of  that scenario  over the years but for unsuspected sailor it can spell danger and shock ,I do often warn anglers who suddenly get a boat and think  nothing about blazing miles into the sea like a headless chicken of the dangers  of the sea state offshore which  can vary dramatically. Some new sailors especially anglers  think they are on lake how wrong they are and some find out the hard way .

I don't disagree but the point was that the Met Office see 12 miles as a sort limit for forecasts:

That’s correct ken the inshore forecast is out to 12 miles which we have on every morning when going to sea and then the shipping which is also issued from the met office and is always up on wind forecast for aback of 12 miles .

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/specialist-forecasts/coast-and-sea/shipping-forecastof .

In summer you can have a force 4-5 southwesterly blowing upto 5 or 6 miles from the shore and then absolutely breathless aback of there,  this only happens in summer with the heat thermals near the shore Knocking  the wind out , tide plays a massive part  with wind as well especially sea breezes.

XC weather is quite a good site for wind as it gives you  the present wind speed and direction in your area and  is fairly accurate Overall. If you click on wind arrow you can have  2 day forecast or double click for a 5 day forecast

Still waiting.....

Have you noticeded they all now use "fish" in all their predictions ,they all overstate the predicted weather incase they under estimate it ,people will care (and perhaps die) if they under estimate it but few will moan if they over estimate it ! So substitute breeze for storm ,a few drops of rain for deluge etc etc bad forcasting ofcourse its no better than looking out your windows but you dont neen billion quid computers to do it!

?????

Forcasting these days are far more advanced than say 10 years ago ,you can look and many different sites which take data from different weather models but as they always say it is a forcast and wind is probably the hardest to get right .

Do you need another opinion or just a newspaper headline so you understand ?

The word fish and weather doesnt ring a bell without a headline giving explanation ,poor poor cod indeed!
