CHESTERS1, NEED HELP

Depends on what you consider quality :

Design?

How long it lasts?

How it works

Or materials?

IE the ABU reels of the 70's were poorly designed no doubt to a set price although in the UK there was little competition unlike the states and japan.

No bearings so not the best user experience but good materials and i still use them today !Modern ones are the opposite and forcing bearings into plastic stupid in the long term it deforms the plastic and they come loose they are now a disposable product so you buy the next model when it comes out.

The early mitchells were well designed for the time and to last well after the next model but even in my mind over designed in the 'match' models more a quirk to catch the foolish i have a mitchell  'lightning cast' and despite repeated tries i cannot get the bail to act properly it either triggers to easily or it refuses to lock .

Modern reels are far better designed but they use inferior materials.

Intrepid reels used inferior materials and most were poorly designed (some were well designed but costly) but they were the cheapest so buyers overlooked that ,i reluctantly used one as an 8 year old but like most switched to mitchells  as soon as i saved money.

Its like comparing a lada to a rolls royce ,they are both cars but one drives better but you pay the price of it doing so ,probably more ladas about than rolls though  so forget everything i said

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Its far easier to curse the darkness than light one candle

Seen the likes of? French made reels? Mitchell garcia wasnt the sole maker of french reels

http://www.mitchellcap.info/

This was a favourite of mine until the decades old internal plastic part fell apart ,yes its french it wasnt just ABU and the americans and japs making them even k p morritt designed  one but it was to expensive to fit in with the pricing and incresed purchase tax of the time

just as hardy are not the only english ones in history.Pezon mitchell was pre garcia ,they also teamed up with luxor (not up on reels bar intrepid who later teamed up with gladding etc) then theres the smaller makers in every country theres thousands of long gone makers in gb no doupt hundreds of thousands worldwide

Note i see pezon mitchel (i?) Exists reserection of a tradename by china to grab the past maker to imply prestige? Campri didn'twork!

Angling was common once every tom dick and harry made reels, especially after ww2 when there was a glut of aluminium Every main shop sold tackle even marks and spencers Far less nowadays online sales are now the biggest seller china the biggest maker

Peerless DAM still make reels in France. They are not cheap.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Have to say I was very lucky & didn't have to start with a Black Prince & the Sealey Blue Match rod which were both very affordable by kids with a paper round but no fishing Dad or fishing relatives.

I cut my teeth on a Speedia pin for trotting & Grice & Young pin for Legering, both my older brother's & Dad's "Hand me downs"  but a good start.
