The tackle has improved materially but in reality old tackle works just as well as old ,rods and reels dont come with a limit on fish caught .I personaly use tackle from the 70's ,it may be seen old fashioned but if it works......

The only major change is now your tripping over what was a very elusive  fish the carp ,even rivers have the buggers! If you like carp no problem but the amount of carp free lakes are very rare today if you do not.

As noted youtube is full of tips and tricks. You have a couple of choices to make whether  you go to day ticket venues or join a club (or two or several) thats up to yourself but as you say sitting by a pond is far easier than continualy casting fluff lol

Hi BG, welcome to the forum

thank you for your reply do people still use swing tip rods

You hardly ever see anyone using a swingtip nowadays; however some of us very occasionally still use one, and recognise how good they can be in the right conditions.  Most anglers today wouldn’t know a swingtip if it hit them in the face and would just think you’ve broken the tip of your rod ?

I haven’t used mine for quite a few years now but I still keep it incase I do decide to use it one day; as I know it’s worth in the right conditions.

Bite alarms are not very good with twitchy bites ,not seen a swing tip for many years but lots of springtips which are perfect for them.

Bite alarms are best used for not missing occasional fish taking the bait ,using one for a shoal of fish feeding in a small area would drive you crazy sounding off with line bites and such ,not just you but going by some most of the rest of the anglers aswell, why anglers use them at full volume right next to them annoys me turn the buggers down or just use common sense and realise you are annoying the anglers around you!

Yes you can. Look for twintip rods that have interchangeable top sections

The only draw back with twintip rods that come with a quivertip plus an Avon style tip is that they rarely if ever come with stand off rings, like a normal float rod has, which makes them sub quality for casting light wagglers and small sticks more than a rod length or two out as the line will tend to stick to the rod blank when it’s damp and hinder your casting range somewhat. However if you are only float fishing closer in or starting your trot from closer in they’re fine (ish).
