Predictions for a Biden Presidency

If Biden ends up being confirmed as President in January, what do you expect to see happen over the four years of Democratic Party rule?

I'll start with:

Increasing censorship - news will be even more controlled and America will see "hate speech" laws that will carry penalties for those with the temerity to suggest that men aren't women or Islam has some really bad points.

Individuals and companies will see massive tax increases and the US will re-join the TPP. With high US taxes and no import tariffs to contend with, companies will simply move both their manufacturing centres and their corporate headquarters abroad, where they can pay lower taxes and increase profit due to reduced labour costs - America will haemorrhage both blue collar and executive jobs.

The warmongering that has been on hold for the last four years will resume.

I doubt hat Biden will last 18 months before he either stands aside or he is ousted by his own part using the 25th Amendment.

Joe is not healthy - remaining life span of 18 months is giving him the benefit of the doubt. He is by and large IMO harmless, selected by members of both major parties to beat TRUMP. An interim and temporary choice

THEN, if he should die the shite will hit the fan. TRUMP'S base really are prejudice fascists that don't care for women, don't understand the concept of liberalism in the United States, and no question, racially and ethnically motivated white supremacist terrorist.  NOTto mention she is a MOUTHY UNCOMPRIMISING PLAYER - WATER AND OIL

She will have no chance to bring joy to mudville.

Biden is certainly not the man he was even 5 or 6 years ago and I can only hope that your assessment of him as "harmless" is justified.

He strikes me as more "disposable" than "harmless" and I worry that some very dark forces are moving into position for when he is inevitably deposed.

Your assessment of Trump's base is fascinating though - especially the "fascists" bit. Their stated goals are limited government, personal freedoms and self-reliance - pretty much the antithesis of fascism.

The US does of course have actual fascists - Richard Spencer is probably the best known of them, and he publicly endorsed Biden. He wasn't even doing it ironically or as a joke. Fascism is basically just socialism with a sense of national identity.

First an apology. 

Call him a kleptocrat, an oligarch, a xenophobe, a racist, even an authoritarian. But Trump's administration doesn’t quite fit the definition of a fascist.

I can legitimately call Trumpism a fascist social and political movement and that Trump is using fascist political tactics. You can be a total xenophobic racist male chauvinist bastard and still not be a fascist.

I tossed that word around more loosely than my beliefs. I believe to be a fascist, one must support the revolutionary, usually violent overthrow of the entire government/Constitution, and reject democracy entirely.

Now, on to BIDEN.

As I said he was selected by members of both parties as a stopgap only.  He will do nothing original with a goal of returning to politics as usual. For better or worse he has 47 years of getting along. Nothing will be an acceptable term in office. Do not look for anything earth shattering.

I spent much more time pondering what I wanted to say regarding fascism. I certainly don't care for Ken's explanation.

FWIW, I only outlined what values the majority of Trumps base would identify with and that they are pretty much the antithesis of fascism.

As to what fascism is, well the 20th century fascist play book is here.

It's a short read (the print copy that I read was only 47 pages) and is a bit pompous and verbose, but the "hell no" bits kinda leap off the page early on.

Setting itself against the liberal philosophies of the 19th century and proposing "Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state" made my skin crawl.
