House arrest.

Well, I'm currently on day five of my Covid house arrest and as it's something that is likely to affect others, it's worth having a think about things to do in preparation.

Some of them I got right and some I missed.

Medication: Keep a stock on hand and don't leave it until the last minute to stock back up.

Power and gas: I inherited a key card system when I bought the house. If you have one, be sure to keep it topped up.

Bread: I've been keeping 4 packs of part baked baguettes on hand for a while and just rotating new ones in as I use them.

Eggs: These will last a month past their best before date if they are refrigerated, so, I've been rotating a couple of dozen in the spare fridge.

Milk: I have a few pints on hand and evaporated milk for coffee/tea and almond milk for cereals if I run out of fresh.

Grab bag: I haven't actually set one up yet, but I've made sure that I have a couple of extra sets of PJs, clean under ware, tee-shirts, a toothbrush etc ready to go if I start to get worse - I ordered the extra sets of PJs over the summer, so I've got more than the usual one set on and one set in the wash.

Shop on-line and keep a slot booked well ahead. Trying to book a slot for the next few days can be difficult, and you can add and subtract items or even cancel an order altogether right up until the day  before it's due.

Now the one I should have thought of ahead of time, because I work in a relatively high risk environment: Give some cash to friends/relatives living locally and ask them ahead of time if they will pick up and deliver perishables, if you need them to.

Or to summarise: Don't get caught with your pants down.

I generally use Asda or Morrisons. They're okay and slots can be had for a quid. Not so great for short notice deliveries though.

The one thing I have just run out of is coffee filters. Looks like I'm going to have to dig out my French press.

Not drunk coffee since 1972

Milk is our hard to get item we have a stand bye stock of food up to a year now but i have stashed away 6 litrs of semi long life ,not that nice but better than nothing.

My mrs only drinks fizzy water if shes not drinking coffee so we have a couple of fizz makers ready to go into action when she runs out !

Learnt our lesson depending on a breadmaker so now have 3 ,i detest dough on my hands so the breadmaker does the work ,luckily this time round flours easily available but i have probably 60 or 70 kg stocked up in various types .I buy it by the sack and put in 8 cup measures in a brown bag and vacuum  seal it into bags.

Regarding your grab bag stick in a couple of days worth of pills if your prescribed any and make sure they are in the original box ! Also in mine i have one of those squeezy orange flavour things to make hospital water drinkable!

KEN,

What I've noticed is what a horrible conversationalist I am with myself. You do realize you have to guard against babbling on until you sound like Chesters1.

I was not psychologically built to simultaneously deal with the tribulations of my two "C's".  The risk of COVID 19 and the loss of any immune system with active CANCER. For the first time in my adult life I am reliant on others.

Everyone is reliant on others unless you grow everything ,fix everything and make everything mr bush ,what you mean is your more reliant ! But unless your a dribbling vegetable i am sure there's plenty of things you can do for yourself still!

I for one am sitting tearful squinting after cutting up an onion, hectic day today and 6" of snow aswell !

"Babbling" is an outlet even if no-one reads it ,me and the wife are like chalk and cheese and only talk when needed! Having been married since 74 it appears sufficient

Cod remarked if i didnt care (about something or other) why did i write 100 words on it ? I remarked i could do a 100 words on grass if he wished ,all the time i have at least 100 words on something means i am not a dribbling vegetable ,you will have to block me if you dont want to see them lol

The isolation absolutely did my head in over the summer, when my back decided to go la-la for three months.

Couldn't work, couldn't walk, couldn't do much at all.

This s a pain, but 10 days is a doddle by comparison.

Hope you're holding up in your current predicament and that you remain well enough to enjoy the coming summer, and maybe catch a few fish.
