Like all debates theres two sides to every story ,but the mention everyone should be on statins whether they need them or not makes financial sense rather than medical sense

It seems strange that 3rd parties cannot see the evidence of its side effects and the 'independant'  group that has the results was paid to hide the results

Another point that never occured to me is that trials are not as transparent as it would seem ,if 30% of participants drop out with side effects before the trial officially starts (i presume they start taking them to get to the desired level in the body then the trial starts) the results will be far different from what they would be if all participants completed the trial IE if 40% had side effects and 30% had dropped out the results would only count the 10% ! Big difference to real world

My outlook on everthing is dont believe anything ,i think its a wise move especially with so called "experts" this person is mentioning

She's hotter than Ben Goldacre but makes many of the same points.

The difference between relative risk and absolute risk is one that I took away the last time I looked into this stuff, and it can be extrapolated to help with looking t a lot of BS claims.

I was prescribed them last year i am uncertain if my present feeling of health has got worse since starting them ,they may be helping internaly but i haven't felt any benefit at all infact definitely  i feel worse unfortunately physically! with such things is it the medical problems or the 9 or so pills doing it! Metformin has a great number of negative points mind you reading the box inserts they all do

Lifes tough do you stop pills and drop dead early or take the pills and live a long miserable life suffering their side effects keeping near the toilet .

Mind you saying that the grass is cut so yesterday i went detecting ,20 minute walk there ,i only lasted 3/4 hour i was knackered and by 8.30 am the sun already hot so i walked home ,it can only get better i hope! Walking excercises your legs but your arms get weak i had aches in my neck all day lol unfortunately muscle weakness and muscle pain is a side effect of half my frickin pills you cant tell

I'm on 80 mg Atorvastatin & have been for the last 8 years or so since my heart attack. I do suffer now with aching hips when walking - one of the side effects of taking Statins but "Aching Hips" can also be a side effect of getting older!! So maybe it's a bit of both??

There's also the "Sour Grapes" factor to consider on her part in the TV prog' being axed. Hell Hath No Fury …..

Asides the reason for her talking about statins if what she says is true why does it matter? .If the evidence  is hidden for money then i think its shady indeed and this evidence should be forced out for all to see , then clinicians can make decisions and advise their patients based on that not guff from a salesperson no doubt on commision !

How the hell did NICE approve a drug without evidence hopefully they are not just taking decisions from interested parties and not looking further?

NICE :hey that guy from oxford says its ok ,money involved? its only 260 million so hes almost "independant" ,any agendas ? Everyone on earth should take it whether they need to or not and the companies will make billions !Seems ok to me !rubber stamp that drug safe!

Spoke to my doc today (yes some are alive) about these concerns and asked why he just prescribes them without this evidence (if its true) he said he would look further he was unhappy i decided to stop taking it from monday for a month to see if my side effects went ,on the bright side if they didnt that means it one of the other pills i am on and statins not causing more harm than good
