Got a nice heads up from another forum. Lidl are selling a range of reels, all priced at £12-99.

I happened to be passing one this morning so it would have been rude not to, sadly theh only had a few left, I grabbed a small spinning reel, perfect for when I wading out in the sea, won't lose any sleep,if it's get dunked in seawater. With a spare metal spool, three years warranty, it's a no brainier for thirteen quid.

They do a baitrunner which is what I'd hoped for.

Hope it works out for you.

So long as you are looking at it as disposable, you can't go far wrong.

Personally, I'd probably go with an entry level offering from a brand like KastKing at that price point:

I keep the reciepts !the box doesnt matter unless your returning an unwanted  item in the 7? day period for online sales and its up to company policy what the return rules are when bought from a shop but for garauntee purposes its the item thats broken the box is immaterial .

The only downsides of lidl is they dont have a clue what they are selling outside of food ,simple questions are lied about or they just ignore them and quote the specs .

Their 9v rechargable batteries are not! And i bought a hot glue gun that said it was battery powered when used ,it wasnt ,they said it was ,i opened it showing there was no battery they refunded my money no doubt to keep quiet!

If you want both knowledge and backup you bought it from a shop in the 50's 60's or 70's now everything is bought in no-one cares ,no-one knows ,no spare parts unless its daiwa or a couple of others if your lucky

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

If I only got a season or two out of it for spinning off the beach I'd consider I'd  had good value, the braid I use is more expensive!

Just remember that Aluminium and saltwater really don't go together unless special coatings are used.

Give it a wipe over with an oily rage, or better yet, a bit of car wax before you go and make sure you give it a good rinse & dry it off when you get back.

I used to have a friend with a large northwest angling shop.  Many years ago he was telling me about a load of reels he'd just got in that cost him a quid or less.  He was amazed at how good they looked and felt for the price they cost.

If I remember correctly he was going to sell them for 9 quid, so the profit margin was great!

I honestly can't see how it's possible to make a reel of any quality for those kinda prices.  Unless of course it's all subsidised as the Russians used to do.

I can remember buying baikal shotguns, some very nice o/u single selective trigger ejectors for lass than 100 quid.

They were subsidised by the russian government and so were realy good quality for little money so John may well have a nice bargain!

Personally I wouldn't contemplate loading cheap mono on these let alone braid. Gears are made of chocolate and the last thing you need is the reels to fail with a good fish on. So long as we buy these things they will show up somewhere, and imo any responsible angler should give this tat a swerve.

Hi everyone, it's nice to see some 'old' names back on the angling section ?

I've a couple of the 'Crivit' reels, One bought from a charity shop for a couple of quid, and the other from a guy who has a second hand stall in a local shop, for a fiver. One is a bait runner, and I've used it for feeder fishing regularly for the last 3 seasons, and never had a problem, biggest fish I've had on it was a 12 lb pike, that took a lob while reeling in. The other is a smaller reel used for light legering, and some float fishing, again I've never had a problem with it in the 2 seasons I've used it. Both have spare spools, and are smooth running, with aluminium, (not plastic) bodies.

I've said before, that I don't look for tackle that will last me 15-20 years anymore, mainly because I'm at that age where I'm not sure that I'm going to last that long.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John
