I have been prescribed a new drug it's a once-weekly injectable but it must be costing the NHS a fortune ,not for the drug its just 0.5ml but the delivery system!

When i had my stent i was issued with a course (2 weeks?) of blood thinning (i presume to combat DVT) simple tiny syringes  in a wrapper ,you took of the plastic needle cover and stabbed it in job done !

But i took this thing apart its a tiny (glass) syringe basically  but must cost a fortune to make and ofcourse the NHS will be obliged to buy them under some contract i have no doubt .

Is it too hard to poke yourself today? Even more annoying you cannot use the damn syringe for anything else unlike the other ones the plunger isnt fixed to its shaft !

Looks like an autoinjector.

The NHS buys them from several manufacturers, pre-loaded for treatment of anaphylaxis and I thought that what they pay was eye-watering until I saw what the American's pay because one manufacturer has secured a virtual monopoly in the US market.

Yes you pull out the grey bit (why its that shape is unknown its just over engineering) push the bit revealed against  puny human flesh ,twist the top (white bit with a green center) until it unlocks and press the green center ,needle goes in then retracts .

You then chuck it in land fill because its many parts cannot be recycled or in a spikes bin but you wont get many of those in one at 6" long and 1.5" at its widest.
