Thought we were back in the 70's two power cuts yesterday and with milliband in charge of destroying the power infrastructure its only going to get worse.

Going backwards in time a power cut wasnt that bad ,you got your lamps out and your trusty paraffin heater out and yes it was an inconvenience but you struggled along .

Today.... Paraffin is more expensive you cant buy it easily ironmongers are disapearing and even garages dont stock it .Your calor gas is also disapearing in the containers that used to be the norm they dont even sell the one we have !

Milliband will find out ofcourse and along with wood burners it will be banned under some clean air decree (its already smoke free zones in many areas)

Your expensive air pump doodas will cease to work (as ofcourse your gas central heating it uses electric to work )its not just a case off bunging coal on a fire with a back burner and running a pump from a 12v battery even with an inverter.

The real danger is communication we realised without our router there was no land lines and there only scant signal on our mobiles as it is , standing on one leg down the garden trying to connect isnt really 21st century its back to the 90's again.

Even without a power cut milliband will tell your meter to stop working when the wind isnt blowing at night and he needs the electric to illuminate london.

Your electric car is no longer viable insurers are refusing to insure them bevause they catch fire and can burn your house down so that cannot be insured if you own one (see the macmaster and his problem)

Looking into a ups for the modem to get round the problem spotted one with a solar input that may just get round the problem if the company confirms it produces an output whilst charging .

Life seems to be going backwards tech is working in reverse

A UPS is only an option if your cell site/telephone exchange has power.

Starlink solves the issue - but at a price.

Thats true but i think generally the power cuts are local so hopefully a; ups gets around that .The usb outlets could be used for lights or with effort provide 12v out the back for our camping tv and satellite for emergency viewing .

Its not one of those ineficiant t ones with built in 240v sine wave inverters with mains sockets .It would be really isilly turning 12v into 240v the plugging in a psu that turns it back to 12v .

I wish we lived at the old house it had a 12v ring circuit for tvs etc i think milliband should concentrate on similar things rather than just banning everything we now think as normal ,the plebs sit shivering around a candle whilst the ruling elite have everything its going back to the medieval period they lived in 15 minute areas they wernt allowed off the lordships land . We WILL own nothing but we wont get to be happy

Happy new year Ken L.

Weirdly, I've decided that I'm going to install PV solar, a battery and 12v lighting when I finally move house.

It'll be LiFePo based, because it's a safe chemistry and give the best bang for a buck.

Happy new year yourself.

The last place wasnt high tech just two leisure batteries on a smart charger in the garage and cables connected to double caravan sockets (different from our mains ones so spurious things couldnt be plugged into them) from a caravan fuse box .

Theres plenty of 12v stuff out there infack if your telly has a psu its probably 12v .

Still trying to get sense from the ups seller my questions seemed to be answered by the sales section rather than the tech lot and a simple question like does the solar input have a max current imput results in ? I'l admit my grammer and spelling suck and i tend to get words muddled etc .She starts telling me the imput via the solar port is up to 22v but then thinks i am going to open it up and fiddle with the pcb despite telling them its the solar port imput socket i am interested in

Hi ,very interested in this device but need further info .rather than many appliences plugged into it we need just the router but for extended time .Is it possible to use a leisure battery plugged into the solar port to extend the running time ? Also is there an online manual for it .thanks

what is the total power out in amps of the 12v outlets

Thank you for your interest in our product. I'm sorry that I don't know what port the leisure battery uses and what the voltage is. This mini UPS uses 2 input methods, DC9-22V or AC110-240Vac. The current used by the 12V DC output port is 3.75A For more detailed information, please refer to the user manual, which I have sent with the attachment

Hi ,its just an 12v battery so not above the voltage of a solar panel .I presume the ups provides 12v output as the solar panel provides power IE it is being charged by solar and outputting voltage at the same time ? What i hope to achieve is add the capacity of my 12v battery to the capacity of the internal battery extending the working time of the ups by plugging it into the solar panel port. We live very remotely there is no cell phone signal so our home phones use voip .I have no idea how long the ups battery will last so hopefully adding a 12v battery will extend greatly the battery life of the ups

I'm afraid you can't use a 12V battery for modification, the circuit board is designed for the original battery 3.2V Please note that removing the UPS cover will void the warranty, and I don't recommend users to make any modifications. This UPS uses lithium iron phosphate batteries, with a cycle life of about 5 years.

Strangely i couldn't get the curser to move past the last quote .Its a very interesting bit of kit and even as a power station just worth buying but even better if you can put a couple of 150 amp batteries in line with it to boost its capacity.

Its not so bad down the other side of the village our old place was often off grid for a week or so hence the investment in a 12v backup

Just ask for a spec sheet....

Lots of super cheap UPS kit on Ali if you're up for the Heath Robinson option, although if you already have the battery, a £10 solar controller and a couple of cheapo panels should cover you - almost all assume a 12v load and have USB outputs.

Finally got sense from them .yes you can plug in a battery (i could get clever and use a panel to continually charge battery ,once we get sun!) but strangely the imput is limited to 20w but better than nothing .

The spec sheet is the manual which they added to the email its the usual limited information trash you get nowadays with limited info which is no use to anyone other than plug and play users.

Cant be bothered to even ask if the imput is limited by the device or i need to limit it myself .i will use a charge controller just in case.

All up and running ,at the moment both the broadband and the router are off grid .You have to run the machine flat then charge it so this post is off grid aswell .Its seems to have about 8 hours use judging by it having one bar missing from start off and now one left .

It all depends on whats plugged in ofcourse and if the broadband itself is down from the sub station but thats miles away so local brown outs (strange term is electric brown when its not doing electric stuff?) should be catered for .

Even my mrs messenger thing should still work its got batteries and i made my echo show 8 have battery backup so Alexa can tell me its time for pills and shopping online viable .

Not tried the battery going into the PV input yet my leisure battery is a big beast so it will be hooked up in the summer when the warmer weather comes .The leads made along with its current restrictor and if it can charge at 18w (why such a small imput?) it would be putting in more than the ups is outputting (on minimum like today ,once you start chaking phones and tablets that will rise) so thats great.Puzzling why it can output 45w but only take 18w, obviously a bad design imho

All bars have gone half an hour ago so waiting until screen goes black ,then plug it in mains and hopefully keep going

Machine switched off , broadband went ten minutes before that ,plugged it in to mains and within 4 minutes everything back to normal ,Alexa had a bit of a fit using a different voice but back to normal once it was shown the right wifi to use (reverted to the shed wifi which only connects to a couple of cameras) In all touch wood it seems ok ,now to enjoy 5 years of no power cuts DOH

Shed wifi playing up it uses a powerline device to take broadband from sender by router to first shed where its connected by network cable into a wifi point in third shed ,wifi is a pain ,unplugging wifi point in first shed and third shed sorts it, it resets and is happy again .My advice is never use wifi cameras ,try not to use network cable cameras and if possible use the old bnc versions ours has never glitched once ,the response time is far faster than the other two and i use cat 7 and 8 cables and decent switches so its not a slow setup .
