None of my gear has 316 Stainless or titanium alloy components. I've been looking into tackle protection products to help avoid corrosion. This is besides giving gear a good rinse and a dry-down after use of course.

For salt neutralisation it would seem a bicarb of soda solution rinse is effective as an alternative to commercial products like "Salt-Away".  For a protective coating (to say line guides) I've narrowed down to low odour Boeshield T-9 or Lanocote (with Boeshield having least odour when dry).

Anyone using these or other products - or any other recommends for anti-corrosion maintenance?

Since no "takers" re starter post I'm relying on ChatGPT advice and have gone with a combo of Boeshield T-9 (bit pricey!), Inox MX3 and good ol' Bicarb' of Soda for a low odour, non-tacky regime combined with the usual freshwater spray wash (with or without some soft soap) and a good wipe down/airing of course.  I think I'm sorted.

Can't say I have ever done more than a quick paddle in warm water and some of my tackle is ancient .

I don't like sprays it could taint the reel so you taint your bait when you use your reel .Not sure about bicarb it's alkaline as is salt water so it's not countering the salt and I know nothing counters bait orders even febreze is in fear of them

Plastic reels are pretty immune ,chrome is attacked from behind and stainless depends on the type and quality of stainless so if salt water doesn't get inside to Ali components reels are pretty robust to the elements .Sand is your enemy especially if it finds grease to hide in .

Thanks for thoughts @chesters1

Like you, I was thinking to avoid any canned sprays, but I was eventually "sold" on the idea that Boeshield T-9 vaporises off with least residual odour (and I'm only planning to spray onto a rag for post-rinse wiping-off of guides, reel externals etc). Yet to test, but if there is a taint, I have plenty of tools etc in need of better anti-rust protection.

Now:  as to bicarb' of soda, ref' your comment, I challenged ChatyGPT re its initial advice and you are right - C'GPT now admits it was wrong to recommend as a "component" in the battle against corrosion by salt!  (Of course there is a warning to users that AI it is not always right & I often challenge, but not on the bicarb' bit originally when I was advised bicarb' can help.)  Thanks for that.

I wouldn't trust chatgpt to do anything ,it just trawls the net and hopes any answers are factual as it cannot do anything other than that ,if 50% or more says it's right then it will say that's fact even if it's not .I asked it what the first intrepid reel was ,it was wrong because it's not AI it's a net trawler

I entered what was the first k p morritt reel ,it failed to do anything because I haven't put the answer out there for it to use .It's nothing more than a search engine that hopes to provide what your looking for .If it fails to answer or gives the wrong answer it's not smart or AI it's broken or in human terms lying no matter how it replied. You can wrap a turd in shiny gold paper but when you open it it's still a turd

One does need to ask questions in a certain (clever) way and be ready to challenge.  Unfortunately the bicarb' advice by-passed my quizzical attention.

I once asked Perplexity AI whether it would remember a successful challenge/correction to its advice:  the answer was "No".
