Have to get you some of that dodgy cheese stuff from Malta- maybe it will give you the edge!

 

I was told (although don't know if its true) someone caught an 11lb bass from St Caths area, while fishing for mullet?

 

And if you talk to Dave these days you will think he is Yak!! He has gone Kayak mad, despite me outfishing him yesterday!

These Scottish mullet are doing my head in. Have tried for them a few times using bread and sweetcorn.Groundbaited with a mixture of bread/sweetcorn/catfood and mashed up sardines. The fish were there rolling like salmon but showed no interest in the hook offerings. Was thinking of trying the fly gear next. It has been sugested to use a small white dry fly over the top of bread groundbait. Anybody tried it before?

Find the fish about half-an-hour before dawn or dusk. Lower light levels mean they lose their daylight caution, and if you keep quiet and unobtrusive you might find they come in right to the edge in front of you, and start taking your freebies and hookbait. I personally would try a piece of floating crust amongst some freebies. Lower light means you'll probably have to hold the line in your non-reel hand to feel for bites, like touch legering, but with a floater.

 

Don't let them frustrate you too much. Everybody I know who goes mullet fishing has days like you described.

caught my first red mullet yesterday ee were only little but went like a bass, daughter made me kiss him afore puttin him back

Had two more nice fish around the 4lb mark on Saturday! Both with floating crust on the surface! Sheer magic!

 

On the Sunday my friend caught two! one about 4 1/2 lb and one about three! I blanked on Sunday and just goes to prove when you think you have cracked it how wrong you can be!

I am looking to go on Holiday in Novemeber to somewhere like Tenerife. Are there any mullet in the Canneries islands does anyone know?

Most certainly, Loads in Porto Colon, the local marina upto about 6LBS all year round.

caught a golden grey mullet about 3/4lb at rhossili beach today personal best as ive never had one before
