What is a 'true' angler?

Peter Waller

Recommended Posts

A "True Angler" will fish for any fish, regardless of species or size, any time, anywhere, with any method and still have that tingle of anticipation regardless.

A "True Angler" will not care if it is warm, cold, sunny or wet he enjoys the feeling of all the different elements in his face.

A "True Angler" loves the smell of different waters, the sound (or even lack of it) of the world his fishing takes him to.

A "True Angler" marvells at every fish he catchs,no matter how many he has caught.

As one old timer wrote, for a "True Angler" -" A float no matter howe many times it has been pulled under, never loses its virginity"

For a "True Angler" it is and always will be a case of "Just one more last cast"

A True Angler has something special inside him,a definate case of the little boy (or girl of course!) that never really grew up properly!

A "True Angler" is always fishing wether he is actually out on the bank or sat in an office!

For the true Angler he has a true gift with his love of angling,a gift that will entertain him, comfort him and give him a far more interesting life than people who have no passionate interests in life.A "constant" in an unpredictable world.

If I was to die tommorow I would die happy thanks to my lifetime love of anglingAm I a "True angler"? Im just an "Angler" mate, end of story.

nice quote i like that one,

for me a true angler like newt has said treats the fish and countryside/nature with respect leave nothing but footprints behind, all this bivvies and bite alarms doesnt make you a true angler, thats b*ll*x! you have still got to use your watercaft as wordbender has said.a true angler will also in my eyes, will fish for his entire life....and never grow tired of the wonderfull sport.

Excellent post Budgie, and that quote is my favourite, especially for fly or lure fishing.

The day I caught my best sea-trout, I promised myself "three more casts"

I hooked the fish on my fifth............

Hark to the Budgemeister, for he speaketh the truth about the true angler.

Now, shaddup Waller you cantankerous old coot. With yer boats and yer echo-sounders and yer anti-carper Nazism. Good job I always respect my extreme elders, or I just might be jolly rude to you.

:D

And on the eighth day God created carp fishing...and he saw that it was pukka.

Its all a question of attitude! Good answers, sums it all up for me.

In reply to Andrew, I think I must be!

Even the Bender Feller has convinced me that some bivvy boys are true members of the 'angle'.

But I'm still not convinced about TVs, Playstations and laptops in the bivvy!!

But you're fine with screens that find fish for you, presumably.

I dont know if I'm true, false, just an angler or even a fisherman...I dont care either.

I do know that when I plan to go fishing the next day that the excitement is so fierce that it stops me sleeping, that has never changed since when I started as a lad.I pray it never does..
