Maplins Battery charger

I bought a Maplins battery charger for 14.99 yesterday. Apart from the charger, which has a test, charge and drain function, you get 8 AAA batteries and 4 AA batteries which is bang on. You can also buy spare batteries for much cheapness too. I thought it was a great bargain. Now I never have to worry about head-torches, remotes, handheld fans, torches and all manner of things. It's been great so far. The batteries come precharged but you have to drain them completely before you recharge them BUT it has a drain function which cleverly does that for you.

Ideal i thought, especially round Christmas when every second present will need batteries.

That does sound like a deal!

Now I've got kids, I realise just how much batteries cost!

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

The problem with most rechargeable batteries is that they have high self-discharge rates.

ie, charge them up, put them in your torch and three weeks later when you go to use your torch/digicam etc, the batteries have hardly any charge left in them. :(

This also causes the batteries to deterioate more quickly than if they were being heavily used.

There is an answer though.

Uniross Hybrio rechargeable batteries, which will retain most of their charge for a year or more (and come fully charged, ready for use).
