Venue: Longtown West Pond, Longtown, Cumbria, CA6 5LJ.
 
The draw takes place at 0900, fishing 1000 to 1500.

 
Each match £20 all in. This includes £6 peg fee. £3 to ACA. £10 pools (50% to 1st, 30% to 2nd and 20% to 3rd placed anglers) and £1 golden pike pool (100% to captor of heaviest pike).

The match winner will also qualify for the 2008 Fox sponsored ACA British Pike Championship Final Match. But with only 27 pegs available places must be booked in advance. To book your place or for further information contact Chris Bowman.

MATCH RULES
1.    Only fish caught by fair means will be weighed in. The competition is for pike .
2.    Fish must be retained alive in carp sacks or pike tubes of adequate size until weighed and recorded by a steward. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF  THE ANGLER  TO MAKE SURE THEY NOTIFY STEWARDS OF THE CAPTURE OF ANY PIKE.  Stewards will weigh and return the fish while the match is in progress. All fish must be returned alive to the water as soon as possible after capture and weighing by stewards and no dead fish will be weighed in. GAFFS AND STRINGERS ARE BANNED.
3.    Anglers may fish with no more than two rods at a time, although any number of rods and tackle may be assembled on the bank ready for use.
4.    LIVEBAITING IS NOT ALLOWED, ANYONE CAUGHT WITH LIVE BAITS IN THE VICINITY OF THEIR PEG, EVEN IF EVENTUALLY INTENDED AS DEADBAITS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. Anglers may fish with deadbait and any legal kind of artificial lure. Fishing must not begin before the start signal at 10 am and cease at 3 pm. An angler who is playing a fish when the final signal is given will be allowed up to 15 minutes to land his catch. No fish hooked after the final signal will count.
5.    The draw will begin at 9 am with fishing from 10 am to 3 pm. The start will be signalled by section stewards, but competitor hearing the signal are asked to inform anglers at adjacent pegs.
6.    No angler with litter at his peg will be weighed in and all cars must be parked only in designated parking zones.
7.    Each competitor will draw a peg number from which to fish. He should position himself not more than one yard from the peg in either direction and on no account fish further than the mid-point between his and his neighbour’s peg. A competitor may however move within one yard of the next peg while playing a hooked fish.
8.    Able-bodied anglers must strike, play and land their own fish, unaided, although it is permissible to borrow  landing nets and carp sacks from fellow competitors. Junior and disabled anglers must strike and play their own fish but assistance with landing and unhooking is permissible – commonsense must prevail. All competitors may obtain assistance from stewards to unhook fish and anyone experiencing difficulty should immediately summon assistance.
9.    Stewards and competitors shall report breaches of the above rules to the organisers.
Pike Anglers’ Club Recommended Code of Conduct for Pike Matches
1.    All Anglers entering a pike match should be in possession of the proper unhooking tools. This should include as a bare minimum, forceps and an unhooking mat.
2.    Anglers entering a pike match should have suitable tackle to retain their pike until a steward can weigh them in. this should be either a pike tube or carp sack, not a keepnet.
3.    No more than one pike should be kept in either a tube or sack at the same time.
4.    Stewards should ensure that no pike are retained for more than 30 minutes wherever practically possible.
5.    There should be ideally at least one steward per 10 anglers, and never less than one steward to 20.
6.    Stewards should be experienced pike anglers capable of helping with unhooking and recovery if necessary.
7.    Stewards should be contactable by all anglers fishing the match, be that through a walkie talkie or mobile phone.
8.    Anglers should use suitable tackle to land a pike quickly and without undue stress. Recommended tackle should be a pike or carp rod of 2 1/2lb test curve or more, 15lb line and 28lb wire trace. Hooks should be semi barbed or barbless. A 36 inch plus landing net should also be used. Beachcasters, boat rods or rods deemed by the stewards as too light will not be allowed, and any angler found without the appropriate tackle will be disqualified from the match.
9.    All runs should be dealt with promptly, gorge tactics should result in the immediate disqualification of the offender.
10.    Dead or damaged pike will NOT be weighed in.
11.    Stewards should do a tackle check before the match commences.
12.    All anglers fishing a pike match should be issued with a clear set of rules and a contact number for stewards, before the match commences, or when booking their ticket.

Any angler found to be transgressing either the code of conduct, specific match rules or endangering the quarry in the eyes of the stewards should be disqualified from the match with immediate effect.
