General

A week of fish feeding very well with long day light hours, despite cold winds gusting to 37 mph which has raised the Dissolved Oxygen to good highs, however combined with the  cold ambient temperatures has dropped water temperatures to 10 deg.  Anglers struggled with presentation with the high winds however some exceptional catches in the circumstances with one or two brollies ending up very poorly through the gusts, best tip is keep brollies for rain. The tip, feeder and bomb working well with winds so high and getting some anglers high catch rates. The good thing is the winds are forecast to drop at last, so pole and waggler will be back in use for good presentation of baits.

Fishing is great at early and late part of the day and anglers need to get correct feeding patterns to keep fish in their swims through the day.  Plumbing up correctly and feed tight in margins  6 metres out and far bank to get maximum catch rates. Tench and skimmers also roach have been caught in good numbers with anglers feeding over depth. Carp have been up in the water in the warm thermal layers, whilst rudd on the drop is easily achieved.

Red maggots, hemp and caster, worm cocktail –worm tipped with caster, maggot or sweetcorn, paste and pellet, as well as luncheon meat (size depending on size of fish you want to catch) prawns and mussels wll working as hook baits.

Feed angel pellets and try groundbait with a few chopped worms or maggot and caster to get fish to your swim (no groundbait allowed on Bassetts pond however only on Lookout and Bowesl). Hemp mixed with red maggots and caster also working well but do not overfeed in this water temperature.

Lookout

Some dedicated anglers out in the high winds have had  great catch rates with skimmers, carp, bream, rudd, roach, perch, ide, golden orfe, crucians, koi, & tench all feeding well as the fish build their bodies up to get ready to spawn when water temperatures rise.

Longer daylight hours mean the fish have longer to feed well so do not over feed but feed little and often to keep them in the swim. Change tactics and depth as well as baits to target different species, tench doing well on hemp with red maggots and caster, or angel pellets mixed with hemp with a fishmeal pellet on the hook. Maggots target the silvers as well as chopped worm and caster, carp love punched or cubed luncheon meat over angel pellets as feed.

Bowes

Some consistent catches on prime pegs especially when getting the feed pattern correct, season ticket holders coming in at 4am or after 9 have had good success with large double figured carp,

as well as good numbers of fish.

Pegs 1, 40, 23, 3, 4, 36, 17, 18, have really produced this week very well.

Luncheon meat hot and spicy is doing well as a hook bait as well as worm cocktail, mussel, caster, sweetcorn, prawn, pellet direct on hook, banded and hair rigged, and paste all catching though paste not as well with water temperatures dropped.

Feed angel pellets mixed with  maggot, or caster to give an edge to other anglers, or try groundbait with chopped worm, caster or red maggots.

Bassetts

This has been a busy pond this week with the pond being so sheltered, tench have been caught in good numbers as well as carp, rudd on the drop, roach, skimmers, crucians, ide, golden orfe, and koi (a lovely 10lb 6oz). Use maggots on the hook or sweetcorn, pellet, and feed maggots or angel pellets, alternatively try feeding hemp with caster mixed in to get fish to your swim. Fish tight in margins of first shelf, or out
3 metres of second shelf but plumb up each swim  to find shelves for highest catch rates.
