The Angling Trust would like to issue a public apology to the Wales and Ireland Ladies’ Shore Angling teams following a mistake in calculating the final results in the recent SALC Home Nations Shore Angling Championships.

An error occurred in recording the final results which led to Ireland being awarded team gold. When calculating the final results, the Ireland team score was recorded as 16 points on day 1 instead of 15. The Wales score was recorded as 15 points when in fact it should have been 16 points.

Both the Irish and Welsh teams’ true score over the two-day competition was 28 points and countback should have been used to determine the winner. Countback would have resulted in Wales being awarded gold by virtue of section wins and section second places over both days. Medals were presented and received in good faith with no party aware of any mistake.  This was simply a case of human error which was not spotted at the time.

The Angling Trust would like to express its deep regret that this error occurred and offer sincere apologies to the Irish and Welsh Ladies’ teams and to all others who took part in the event.

The Angling Trust would also like to thank both the Irish and Welsh Federations for their patience, understanding and support in enabling the situation to be rectified. The Wales Ladies’ team will be retrospectively issued with gold medals and the Ireland Ladies team will be issued with silver medals.
