Exciting news…the British Carp Study Group is launching its seventh book on the 7th December, 2013.

The Book

This book is a complete departure from anything we have produced before, this is an epic 576 page volume and is subtitled “The Technical Edition.” We asked our members to give their personal view on every aspect of carp fishing and almost seventy of them have contributed to this unique take on the technical aspects of our sport. There are in-depth chapters covering Watercraft, Carp Welfare, Bait, Bait Application, Presentation and Detection, Extreme Range Fishing, Margin Fishing, Mid Water fishing, Surface Fishing, Winter Fishing, Photography and Mindset. Scouring our members list we have put together an incredible list of authors, all experts in their field and providing us with what we believe will be one of the most comprehensive volumes made available on the subject of modern carp fishing. The book is now in the final stages of production.

The Contributors
Contributors span the history of modern carp angling and include many high profile anglers and also those under the radar guys who just quietly catch carp. They include Leon Bartropp, Gary Newman, Mark Holmes, Shaun Harrison, Mark McKenna, Ian Poole, Jason Hayward, Rob Hughes, Julian Cundiff, Tim Paisley, Keith Jenkins, Dave Gawthorn John Carver, Simon Hartop, Brian and Martyn Skoyles and many more with introductory pieces from Kevin Clifford, George Sharman, Derek Stritton, Kevin Nash, Pete Springate and Chris Ball. It contains an incredible array of writing talent. Every piece has been specially written for this book. There are archive pieces too with pictorial glimpses into the groups archives.

Background
Its over two and a half years since we first discussed this project and our steering group were locked in a small meeting room at Newport Pagnell services to brainstorm the concept.  A year and a half ago Brian Skoyles agreed to come on board and Brian, John Carver and Ron Key met and hammered out the first cohesive plan based on Brian’s vision of the book.  Add the work of over sixty contributors and months of intense work and we have a book. Mike Starkey took on the complex job of designing and assembling the book all 576 pages of it.  Proof reading of the massive final document became the responsibility of Peter Mohan one of the founders of the BCSG. Its a nice touch that both Mike Starkey and Peter who were responsible for creating the first BCSG book are both involved in this one.

Peter Mohan comes from another generation and another way of fishing. This is very much a book on modern carp fishing and we were interested and a little concerned to hear what he thought of the book. We asked Mike Starkey if Peter had commented on the book. Mike just said Peter’s been taking notes as he read it and he’s off to the tackle shop tomorrow. Seems we needn’t have worried.
