News release from Brompton Lakes

Brompton Lakes – which is fast establishing itself as one of the UK’s premier luxury angling holiday venues – is looking forward to the start of the holiday season with its lakes in prime condition and high numbers of fish recorded.

Situated amongst the spectacular scenery of the Yorkshire Dales, Brompton Lakes is a development of five-star self-catering holiday lodges built on the shores of two well-stocked fishing lakes. With exclusive lake and river fishing opportunities, the lodges offer angling enthusiasts and their families a high standard of stylish yet comfortable accommodation.

Roy Stephenson, owner of the site, is particularly keen to maintain the quality of the fishing and has recently brought in specialist equipment to keep the vegetation at optimum levels. “We hired a machine that moved across the lakes, brought the weed to the surface and then removed it. This was followed by a water treatment to prevent excessive weed re-growth whilst keeping the aquatic environment healthy for both fish and other wildlife.

Brompton Lakes“Taking these measures has been very beneficial to the lakes, which are now in perfect condition for the start of the holiday season. The fish themselves are also thriving and currently spawning, which is an indication as to how early everything seems to be this year,” he added.

Since its opening three years ago, the site has won praise from many anglers who are able to fish the lakes for freshwater species such as common carp – some reaching 20lb – bream, roach and tench.

Guests can also enjoy private fishing on the River Swale, which flows around the southern edge of the site and is just a few minutes’ walk from the lakes. This stretch of water provides excellent conditions for fly and game fishing, with good numbers of brown trout and grayling. Just a few metres further down the river in the deeper stretches are chub and barble.

Should guests wish to vary their angling experiences while on holiday then Brompton Lakes is close to a number of popular commercial fishing sites – most only a few miles drive away.

Brompton Lakes itself is surrounded by woodland and open countryside and the site occupies a quiet location just a few miles away from the historic market town of Richmond. Each lodge sleeps six and has a large decking area overhanging the lakes. Some have specially constructed fishing platforms, which provide anglers with a unique coarse fishing experience from the front of their lodges, but are sufficiently far apart to allow individual space and privacy.

“One of the things that makes Brompton Lakes so popular with anglers and their families is the fact that they provide a holiday for everyone. As well as the fishing, there are lots of alternative activities for those who wish to ring the changes or are perhaps holidaying with others for whom fishing is not their main interest! We have some of the most spectacular countryside in Britain on our doorstep with plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling or horseriding and nearby places of interest to visit,” added Roy Stephenson.

The lodges themselves offer a degree of luxury that is rare in this sector and are constructed out of sustainable wood with convex living plant roofs. All have individually designed interiors with bespoke kitchens, solid wood floors, flat-screen TVs and state-of-the-art, swivel log burning stoves as standard.
