Weekly report by Marlene Mc Laughlin – 5th September, 2010

Despite very blustery conditions all weekend at Cashel anglers still persevered with rewarding results.

Derry’s Maurice Whiteman using assorted sedges and buzzers released an amazing twenty-four trout with a few big ones thrown in for good measure.  Chris and Lee Morrow (Ballykelly) and Rick Clark (Limavady) released twelve trout between them using the muddler, f-flies and sedges with trout up to 3lb.  Billy Hazlett (Derry) had two challenging days also using dries banking eight trout with his biggest for home weighing 4lb 6ozs.  Jim Russell and Danny Walker from Newtonabbey had fun raising a few on dries.  Pearse Doherty (Maghera) being reasonably new to lake fly fishing banked two trout which took suspender dries.  Jude O’Kane (Dungiven) released three in total using egg flies.  Paul Ford (Derry) released one and lost four which fell to olive suspenders and buzzers.  John Hasson (Dungiven) released three which took the f-fly.  Alfie Sheppard (Kilrea) and Denis Sweeney (Garvagh) put in a few hours during an unsettled Sunday evening, hooked a few trout but found them difficult to keep on.

Our annual competition will be on Saturday the 30th October 2010.  If interested in taking part please get in contact with the staff at Cashel Trout Fishery as soon as possible for more details.
