Weekly report by Marlene Mc Laughlin – week ending 6th March, 2011

This beautiful spring weather has encouraged anglers once again to put their fly fishing skills to the test with us here at Cashel.

Using the octopus fly, Campsie’s John Hall banked an amazing fifteen trout while Martin Bradley (Dungiven) released nine beauties which fell to cul de canards and suspender buzzers.  Franky Murphy (Feeny) bagged two weighing almost 4lb and released a further five which fell to suspender buzzers too.  Dungiven’s Andrew Logan released four which took the hare’s ear and the egg fly while John Hasson also from Dungiven released five trout which took the wee polystyrene head buzzer.  Pearse Doherty (Maghera) had a quiet start to the day but did very well banking four trout in the evening using a vibrating leg bloodworm.  Derry’s Billy Hazlett released five trout which took wee dries and buzzers while Michael Doherty Snr and Michael Doherty Jnr (Derry) took five trout home between them totalling to 9lb 14ozs.  They used floating fry, green vibrator and cat’s whiskers to make their catches.  Roland Mullan (Feeny) banked one trout after a short stay which took a wee dry fly.
