Report by Marlene Mc Laughlin – 24th January, 2010

We’re back!  Anglers are so relieved to be able to give Cashel a throw after a long spell of very cold weather and no fishing.  With that in mind they were by no means disappointed.

Maghera’s Bernard Mellon released a total of thirty trout up to 14.5lb.  Dungiven’s Mark Boyce netted the ‘big’ one for Bernard almost breaking the net.  Mark released at least a dozen beauties which also fell to assorted lures and buzzers.  Henry, Seamus and Liam Kelly (Derry) had an enjoyable day using black and green lures banking a half a dozen trout between them.  Their friend Brendan Lynch (Derry) released one also which took a green and black leech.  Maghera’s Jimmy Norton did very well too using orange leadheads.  He bagged two for home and released six.  He banked one at 12lb and one at 6lb.  Well done Jimmy!

Dungiven’s Ronan O’Loan released five trout which took GH black and green self tied lure.  Roland Mullan (Feeny) and Eugene Farren (Dungiven) released seven and four trout respectively using lures while Franky Murphy (Feeny) released three in a couple of hours. John Hasson and Martin Bradley (Dungiven) released nine and five trout respectively using assorted gold heads, buzzers and green fritz.
