Catch Report 25th June – 2nd July 2012 by Chay Jackson, fishery manager

Main Lake
Plenty of Bream between 3-5lb being caught using long range feeder tactics, bags are averaging 25lb but weights in access of 50lb are not uncommon. Better areas are in front of the sailing club and the 50’s. Neil Westwood of Nottingham had a cracking bag of Bream and Tench for 57lb using 8mm boilies and the pellet method, Neil fished peg 52.

On the Carp front it has been one of the most productive weeks for a while even if none of the resident big ones have been out, Mark Hallam of Leicester landed 3 Carp to 21lb and Steven Steptoe of Lincoln managed to take 2 Carp of 18lb and 22lb 3oz.

Predator fishing has been very good with plenty of Zander to 11lb being taken on small deadbaits, Pike to 19lb have also been caught on both lures and deadbaits.

Boys Pit
The boys pit has been in excellent form for Tench with lots of 3-4lb fish and the odd fish to 7lb. The deeper channel areas are the best places to start with sweetcorn and luncheon meat being the preferred baits. Venue regular Steve Halford fished the waggler for 11 Tench to 5lb and some bonus Bream to 5lb using corn and luncheon meat hookbaits.

Pike fishing is prolific on the boys pit with lures being the better tactic; it is not unusual to take upwards of 10 pike in a session!

Open match Result
With the storms at the end of the week causing the main lake to flood and consequently colour up not a lot was expected from the latest open match, however the flood receded quicker than anticipated and by the time the match came round it was back to normal level wise if not a little coloured. The weights were better than I thought with Nigel Trueman taking the honours with 41lb 4oz of Bream from peg 58. Second place went to Rob Fryer who landed 32lb of Bream with 3rd going to Pete Jayes with 19lb 7oz.

2nd: Rob Fryer – 32lb – Peg 52 – Bream
3rd: Pete Jayes – 19lb 7oz – Bream
